Did you know it's hazardous to throw away batteries in the regular garbage?

Learn where your safe disposal or recycling sites are for your area.

Post-holiday reality:
New device → toss the old device → you “accidentally” consider throwing the battery in the garbage.

Don’t do it — lithium-ion batteries can ignite under pressure.

Always take lithium-ion batteries to designated recycling or hazardous waste collection sites. Contact your local municipality for safe disposal instructions.

⚠️ Orange Level Warning: Freezing Rain
The County of Renfrew has declared a Significant Weather Event in response to Environment Canada’s 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑹𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝑾𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁:
📅 Significant freezing rain expected this evening into Monday morning.
🌨️ Ice build-up of 𝟭𝟱 𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟬 𝗺𝗺 on some surfaces.
🚗 Travel will likely be hazardous and some routes could be impassable
👉 Non-essential travel should be avoided.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:
This declaration means winter maintenance timelines are suspended until conditions improve. Crews will be out on County roads as usual, but it may take longer to achieve minimum maintenance standards.

A significant freezing rain event is expected Sunday night through Monday afternoon.

⚠️ What to Expect:

A long period of freezing rain

10–15 mm of ice possible

Ice pellets may mix in at times

🕒 Timing:

Begins Sunday night

Continues through most of Monday

Changing to rain showers or flurries by Monday afternoon

🌬️ What’s Causing It:
A rapidly intensifying low-pressure system moving across the Great Lakes will bring prolonged freezing rain to the region. Exact ice amounts may vary depending on the storm track.

⚡ Impacts:

Possible power outages

Difficult travel conditions

Ice-covered roads, sidewalks, and surfaces

Please plan ahead, stay cautious, and keep an eye on updates as the system approaches. Stay safe, Renfrew County.

‼️New Legislation Coming Jan 1, 2026‼️

📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE for Homeowners & Landlords!
Ontario is introducing new Carbon Monoxide alarm requirements effective January 1, 2026 under the updated Ontario Fire Code.

What’s changing? 🤔
CO alarms will be required on every storey of homes that have:
• A fuel-burning appliance
• A fireplace
• An attached garage
• NEW: Heated air supplied by a fuel burning appliance located outside the home (like in a utility shed)

⚠️This applies to residential homes, suites, care occupancies, and retirement homes, regardless of building age.

Why the change?
These updates are designed to prevent CO poisoning, improve early detection, and save lives.
