We’re proud to share that Dr. Pil Joo, one of our exceptional ARH physicians, is a co-author of a new article in Canadian Family Physician on anaplasmosis, a lesser-known but increasingly important tick-borne illness in Canada.
🦠 What is anaplasmosis?
Also known as human granulocytic anaplasmosis, this infection is carried by the same ticks that transmit Lyme disease. As tick populations expand with climate change, cases are rising across the country, including here in Ontario.
Why clinicians should pay attention:
➡️It often presents as a nonspecific fever (no obvious rash).
➡️Common lab clues include leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and mildly elevated liver enzymes.
➡️When patients present with fever of unknown origin, anaplasmosis should be part of the differential.
Early recognition and treatment can reduce complications, making awareness essential for primary care and hospital clinicians.
👏 We congratulate Dr. Joo for contributing to this important national clinical guidance and for helping improve awareness across the healthcare community.
