Enteric Outbreak - Declared Over!

As of March 25th, the NWHU has officially declared the Enteric outbreak on the Extended Care Wing OVER.

Procedures and visitations may now resume to normal, thank you for all your effort in containing the spread of this illness.

NOTICE: Effective today - Friday, March 20, the Northwestern Health Unit has declared an Enteric (Gastrointestinal) Outbreak ( #2249-2026-00015) in the Extended Care Wing of the Atikokan General Hospital. As always, please do not visit the unit if you are feeling unwell. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

The team here at the Atikokan Medical Clinic is thrilled to continue serving as a Practice Ready Ontario clinical field assessment site.

Practice Ready Ontario is the Government of Ontario’s new program for internationally trained family physicians who already have clinical practice experience. It is part of the plan to expand the health care workforce and connect people to care in high need, rural communities like ours.

Dr. Babatude Fatoki will be joining our team in Atikokan on February 2, 2026 and will be directly supervised and assessed by family physicians in clinic, as well as at the hospital, in the emergency department, long-term care and home care.

Dr. Fatoki’s medical training and experience began in Nigeria, but he has been working in Canadian healthcare systems since immigrating 6 years ago. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, watching soccer and tennis, exploring outdoor activities and spending quality time with his family.

The Atikokan Medical Clinic has always been proud to foster a learning environment for the next wave of medical professionals. It is our hope that you will show the same warm reception and respect to Dr. Fatoki that is shown to our regular physicians.

Hello Atikokan!

Please join us in extending the warmest of welcomes to Dr. Michelle Ebere, the newest family physician to join us at the Atikokan Medical Clinic!

Dr. Ebere’s medical training and experience began in Nigeria. She migrated to Canada 6 years ago and has most recently been immersed in the the healthcare sector in Edmonton, Alberta.

Dr. Ebere is equally as excited as we are to join the team and is looking forward to providing compassionate, patient-centred care to the people of Atikokan. Above all, she values building trusting, long-term relationships with her patients and their families.

Outside of work, Dr. Ebere prioritizes spending time with her family and engaging in outdoor and community activities.

We are thrilled that she has decided that Atikokan was the right community for her and her family and are looking forward to all the benefits that she will bring to our overall health care team.

We are happy to announce that as of January 8, 2026 the Northwestern Health Unit has officially declared the Respiratory Outbreak on the Extended Care Wing OVER.

Procedures and visitations may now resume to normal.

Notice: Effective December 31st, the Atikokan General Hospital Extended Care Wing has declared a Respiratory Outbreak.
Visitor Restrictions: During this time, there will only be 2 Essential Caregivers permitted at a time per non-isolated resident, and 1 Essential Caregiver permitted at a time per isolated resident.
We ask that these visitors take extra precautions when visiting our residents to ensure they comply with all Infection Prevention and Control measures required, such as hand washing and wearing a surgical mask. DO NOT visit if you have any cold or flu symptoms.
Masking with a hospital provided mask at all times and increased hand hygiene is required during outbreaks on the Extended Care Wing.
This outbreak is isolated to the Extended Care Wing and does not affect the rest of the AGH services. Outpatients may attend appointments as usual.
Please do not immediately attend the other departments of the hospital after visiting the Outbreak zone.
