Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.
During early labour T.E.N.S can be extremely helpful with providing pain relief during contractions. Using the gate theory of pain, it is used to block or disrupt the signals of pain to the brain. The laboring person has complete control of the unit and with a push of a button can control the strength and timing of the electrical pulses.
