The ABLE Network

The ABLE Network We inspire adults with intellectual disabilities to reach their full potential through access to better living and employment.

The ABLE Network is a fee for service, registered charity located in York Region, Ontario. We are a community based program that provides relevant inclusive work and recreation opportunities for young adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) in natural job and community settings. Our participants are supported in our five core programs of work experience, transit training, recreation, literacy a

nd volunteer activities. The ABLE Network is based on strong principles and research that states that inclusion of persons with an ID in natural settings provides them with an equal opportunity to make a contribution to the health and well-being of their community.

This year’s fundraising walk in support of ABLE is coming up on Sunday, May 3rd!

Our program participants look forward to this event every year! This is a great opportunity for them to raise funds and awareness for ABLE while enjoying a fun Sunday afternoon with their peers and friends, their families and caregivers, ABLE Board members and staff, and some of our wonderful community partners and supporters. This is a big fundraiser for us so it’s very important that we meet our goal of raising $100,000 for ABLE. As a fee for service registered charity, our program is funded 50% by fees paid by our program participants and the other 50% is generated by grants, private donations, and organized fundraising events. While it’s challenging for us to maintain this financial model, we do it so that we can keep fees affordable for our participants and their families.

Please donate to our campaign, or sponsor one of our program participants, by visiting our campaign page at:

A big thank you to Highview P.S. and H.G. Bernard P.S. for inviting ABLE to their Parent Community Resource Event!

The event brought together families, caregivers, students, and organizations to share resources, services, and supports available for students in YRDSB’s Community Classes.

We’re especially proud of Jenna and Ethan, participants from ABLE’s Richmond Hill location, who were featured guest speakers. They shared their experiences with ABLE and their transition beyond high school with confidence, great job! 👏

Thank you again to both schools for hosting such a meaningful event. 💙 @ York Region District School Board

The Newmarket bake sale was a huge success! 🧁🎄 We’re incredibly grateful to our families and caregivers, friends, and community partners for their support! A special thank you to Starbucks (Leslie & St. John’s) for generously donating coffee and supplies for our guests. Thanks to everyone’s involvement, this year’s bake sale was very successful in raising proceeds to support Inn from the Cold! 🙏🏼🌟

✨We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who participated in our SnowFAKE Holiday Gala! We hope you enjoyed not attending!😉 We asked for snow and our generous supporters provided a nice amount of it. ❄️ We're optimistic that more snow will come our way before the holidays.

The winner of our special door prize was selected using a random number generator and the snowball landed on lucky number 62 belonging to Gale H. Congratulations Gale! We will arrange to get your prize to you. ✨

One last chance to join the ABLE Network SnowFAKE Holiday Gala! 🎁

This week, we’re highlighting Lucas from our Newmarket location.

Lucas has been a program participant at ABLE for 4 years. He initially attended our Richmond Hill location before transitioning to our Newmarket location once it opened last year. He enrolled at ABLE during the pandemic shutdown, after our community-based program had transformed into a vibrant virtual format via Zoom. Lucas did a great job connecting with staff and other participants online. When the World opened back up and we returned to in-person programming, Lucas adapted seamlessly, and he eagerly engaged with the community. Lucas is a dedicated and much-loved employee of North York Farmers. He started working there shortly after transitioning to our Newmarket location last year and he is flourishing! Lucas is proud to support his hometown community, where in addition to his paid employment, he volunteers at The Salvation Army Thrift Store - Canada. He has stayed connected to the Richmond Hill community where he has been transiting independently each week to volunteer at The Lively Loaf bread baking program run by L'Arche Daybreak. Lucas enjoys all aspects of his ABLE programming, including working out at the Town of Newmarket Magna Centre, going grocery shopping at No Frills, and doing canvas painting at Main Ideas Painting Studio.

Lucas takes great pride in being part of ABLE and he consistently represents his program with enthusiasm. Wherever he goes in the community, he eagerly promotes and shares his passion for ABLE. Lucas remains committed to continuing to develop his skills, thanks to the guidance and encouragement he receives from his cherished program. Lucas is ABLE!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve shared the stories of Brent, Debbie, Kaitlyn, and Lucas—each unique, yet all connected by one thing: every ABLE participant is on an inspiring journey of growth, confidence, and belonging. These are real lives being strengthened every day, thanks to people like you who support opportunities and inclusion in our community.
