❤️‍🩹The holiday season is not necessarily the “happiest season of them all” for everyone.

If you have been affected by a disaster or emergency, holidays can be a time of both hope and increased stress. Follow our tips for taking care of yourself and others during holidays⬇️

- Ensure you have a safe place to stay and that your basic needs are met.
- Eat nutritiously and stay hydrated, as you’re able to.
- Get enough rest.
- Avoid isolation by reaching out. If you find yourself in new surroundings, reach out to those around you.
- Be patient with yourself and with those close to you.
- Honour your traditions. Be flexible and prepared to engage in new activities to celebrate.
- Take it slow. Small steps are helpful when tasks seem overwhelming.
- Seek out assistance and resources.
- Stay positive and make plans.

Donna Fedorov, President of NHDHA, presented a $100,000 cheque to Kim Bishop, Chair of the QHC North Hastings Fund Development Committee (NHFDC), along with committee member Sharon Oram. This contribution represents the initial installment of NHDHA’s three-year commitment totaling $300,000 for the NHFD’s “Care in the Cart 2025/26 Giving Priorities,” which have a combined funding goal of $1,250,000. The priority items include an X-ray machine ($678,883), cardiac monitors ($138,631), an ECG machine ($23,435), and a Holter monitor ($6,113). This significant contribution to our partner NHFD is made possible through the continued support of participating community members and visitors. So from the bottom of our hearts we extend our sincere gratitude to all who have participated in our fundraising efforts for 2025 and look forward to ongoing collaboration and events in 2026!

Effective Monday, December 22, 2025, Quinte Health is requiring staff, patients, and visitors to wear masks in patient-facing areas of our hospitals and community-based programs.

This includes emergency departments, clinics, waiting rooms, diagnostic imaging, and inpatient units (including when visiting patients in their rooms).

Please adhere to this masking requirement to help protect our vulnerable patients during respiratory illness season.

Staff, patients, and loved ones do not need to wear masks in non-patient care areas (e.g., offices, hallways, washrooms, lobbies, cafeterias, meeting rooms). Please consider your vulnerabilities and level of comfort when deciding whether or not to mask in these common areas. Your decision to continue masking will be supported and respected.

If you have symptoms of illness, please put on a mask at the hospital entrance and leave it on.

Please Do Not visit patients if you have any symptoms of illness.

We are seeing very high levels of influenza activity, particularly among children and youth, in our region and across Ontario. Influenza A (H3N2) is the dominant strain this season, and pediatric influenza-related hospital admissions are higher than what is typically seen.

What this means:
• More children are becoming seriously ill with influenza and require hospital care
• Local trends reflect what is being seen across the province

How you can help protect your children and our community:
💉 Get vaccinated: The flu vaccine remains the best protection against serious illness and hospitalization.
🏠 Stay home when sick: If you or your child have symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue, please stay home.
🧼 Practice good hand hygiene: Wash hands often with soap and water.
😷 Wear a mask when feeling unwell: Masking helps reduce the spread of illness to others.

💙 Everyone has a role to play in keeping our community healthy. Taking these steps can help protect vulnerable children, families, and health-care resources during this active flu season.

Boundaries are a gift you can give yourself during the holidays. They help protect your peace, reduce stress, and make room for genuine joy. Saying no or stepping back when needed doesn’t make you unkind; it helps you stay grounded and enjoy the season more fully. ☃️🌟☃️🌟☃️
