Here’s one more reason to choose chiropractic first!

An extensive U.S. study of nearly 50,000 adults found that people who received spinal manipulative therapy for new low back pain were:

✅ 80% less likely to develop opioid use disorder
✅ 77% less likely to become long-term opioid users
✅ Less likely to be prescribed opioids in the first place

The takeaway? Chiropractic care is an evidence-based, drug-free approach that helps you feel better without the risks of long-term medication. ✨

Why is it important to rehab an ankle after a sprain? 🤔

Many people follow the rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) protocol after an ankle sprain until the pain subsides. Once the pain is gone, they resume all their everyday activities.

The issue is that the function of the ankle might not be the same as before.

A recent review found that those with chronic ankle instability have different walking mechanics, which can increase the risk of suffering another ankle sprain!

This is why restoring ankle mobility and strength following an ankle sprain is important! 🙌

When you think about low back pain treatment, most people think about core strengthening exercises.

But did you know that cardio exercise can also benefit those suffering from low back pain? 🏃

A recent study found that a 12-week run-walk exercise program was an effective treatment option in those with chronic low back pain.

So, while strengthening the core muscles is an effective approach, it's not the only approach that works! 🙌

As we age, we are at an increased risk of falling due to poor balance. Did you know that strengthening your back can help with balance?

If the pain is in your back, why work on the glutes and hips?

According to a recent study, gluteal training was beneficial in reducing pain and improving function for those with low back pain.

This is because the muscles in the hips and glutes are connected to the lower back, so it is essential to treat both areas.

Tendon pain is commonly thought to be an overload injury. But did you know vitamin D deficiency is also linked to tendon pain? ☀️

Of course, with tendon pain, it is important to strengthen the tendon and restore normal joint biomechanics, but also to look for any other factors that might be contributing to the injury! 💪

How can you prevent low back pain? 🤔

The answer isn’t so clear, but there are some ways to reduce your risk of developing low back pain.

For example, a recent study found that replacing sedentary and light physical activity with moderate-intensity physical activity reduced the risk of developing low back pain.

Moderate-intensity physical activities include walking fast, riding a bicycle, and even dancing! 🚴

Do you experience shin splints when you run? The solution might be your foot! 🦶

An “active arch” or “short-foot” exercise helps build up the strength of the small, supportive foot muscles.

Doing this exercise has been shown to reduce the stress placed on the shins while running. 🏃

Here's how: Stand shoeless on the affected leg with your foot flat. Engage your arch muscles to raise the arch without curling your toes or lifting the ball of your foot.

Our Story

As one of Barrhaven's longest serving Chiropractic clinic, I continually strive to achieve the highest standards of excellence in all aspects of patient care. This high-level of quality and service has helped me become the number one choice for many residents of Barrhaven and surrounding areas for Chiropractic care, and custom orthotics.

Originally from Trois-Rivières, QC, I have been in practice in Barrhaven since 1993. Over the past 25 years, I have continuously acquired further knowledge, skills and experience, but it is my passion for caring for people and my ultimate goal of restoring their optimal health that has fuelled my success and established me as a well-respected health care practitioner in my community.

Additionally, I hold positions with the Canadian Chiropractic Board of Examiners and the College of Chiropractors of Ontario. It has been very professionally fulfilling and gratifying to serve the Chiropractic profession outside the traditional clinic sense, all the while providing an opportunity for myself to continuously learn and remain the best Chiropractor I can be.

In addition to Chiropractic care, South Nepean Family Chiropractic also offers Massage Therapy. Our in house massage therapist is Angela Hopper.
