Your pillowcase touches your skin 6–8 hours every night—it matters more than you think.
Let’s talk fabric + hygiene:
Silk (the gold standard)
• Naturally antimicrobial
• Least absorbent → keeps skincare on your skin, not your pillow
• Reduces friction = fewer sleep lines, less irritation, calmer acne-prone skin
Cotton
• Highly absorbent → pulls oils, sweat, and product from your skin
• Creates friction → contributes to wrinkles and inflammation
• Harbors bacteria quickly if not changed often
Satin (polyester)
• Smooth like silk, but not breathable
• Traps heat and moisture → bacteria thrive
Bamboo
• More breathable than cotton
• Still absorbent and not truly antimicrobial
• Better than cotton, not equal to silk
The hygiene factor (this is big):
A pillowcase can accumulate hundreds of thousands to millions of bacteria within ONE WEEK from sweat, oil, dead skin cells, hair products, and makeup residue. That bacteria transfers directly to your face night after night—hello breakouts, congestion, and irritation.
Skin rule of thumb:
• Silk pillowcase
• Change it 2–3 times per week (more if you’re acne-prone)
• Clean skin + clean pillow = clearer skin
Your skincare doesn’t stop at your serum.
It continues where you sleep. 💫
