Throwback Thursday 🕰️💛
Let’s take a trip back in time to some of the myths women were told after breast surgery ,the ones we’re so glad are gone:
“You must wear a prosthetic.”
In the 1960s and 70s, prosthetics were seen as mandatory. Women were expected to “replace what was lost,” even if they didn’t want to. Choice? Rarely an option.
“Scars should be hidden, and feelings ignored.”
Emotional healing wasn’t part of the conversation. Talking about scars, swelling, or body image was taboo — women often struggled quietly
“All mastectomy bras are stiff and medical-looking.”
Back then, bras were heavy, scratchy, and purely functional. Lace? Style? Comfort? Forget it , it was all about keeping a form in place.
“Comfort means ugly.”
Soft fabrics, breathable designs, and gentle support weren’t standard until decades later. For years, women had to choose between looking “normal” and feeling comfortable.
“Recovery is quick if you follow the rules.”
The idea that “moving on” fast was the goal left many women feeling like their bodies were failing them if healing took time.
Today, we talk openly. We support choice, comfort, and style. And most importantly, we acknowledge the real work it takes to heal : physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Throwback Thursday isn’t just nostalgia, it’s a reminder of how far we’ve come, and how much better it can be for the women healing today. 💛
