It’s time for Massage FAQ: Part 3 👻

With the ghost of your forgotten home care plan making an appearance today, let’s start with the question that haunts every RMT…

Q: How can someone maintain the benefits of massage at home?
A: Keep up with your stretches, gentle movement, and body awareness — basically, do the things your RMT suggests before they have to come back and haunt you. What you do between sessions makes the biggest difference in how long your results last.

Q: Can massage help with posture — or is that a myth?
A: Massage can support better posture by releasing tension and increasing awareness, but posture itself isn’t proven to directly cause pain. Think of it as hitting “reset” — your muscles feel better, you notice your body more, and you can move more comfortably. The real key is variety and movement throughout your day, not a “perfect” posture.

Q: How often should someone really get a massage to feel lasting results?
A: A lot of people book monthly for maintenance, but it’s entirely individual. Chat with your RMT about what will work best for your body, goals, and lifestyle. If you’re working through an injury or specific concern, you might start more frequently and space out as things improve.

Q: Can massage help with mental health, or is that just hype?
A: Massage therapy can lower stress hormones, boost serotonin and dopamine, and calm the nervous system — making it a great support for overall mental wellness.

Q: What’s one thing clients do that makes a massage way more effective?
A: Communicate and breathe! Let your RMT know if the pressure feels too deep or too light — feedback helps us tailor your treatment to what your body needs. And remember to breathe — holding your breath keeps muscles tense and makes it harder for them to release.

👻 Moral of the story: don’t ghost your home care plan.

🎬 Part 2 of my FAQ series!

Q: What do you prefer to be called - Massage Therapist, Registered Massage Therapist or Masseuse?
A: Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) or Massage Therapist (MT). Terms such as “Masseuse” or “Massage Parlour” are outdated terms and are often associated with the s*x industry. “Registered Massage Therapist” is a protected title under the College of Massage Therapist of Ontario, meaning only fully licensed and regulated health care professionals can use it.

Q: Do you crack backs?
A: No. RMTs do not perform chiropractic adjustments as it is not within our scope of practice.

Q: Is massage therapy the best option for every problem?
A: Massage therapy is effective for many issues, but we refer out to other healthcare providers when needed.

We’re Registered Massage Therapists — trained healthcare professionals who assess, treat, and support your wellbeing. 😊
