Care MENtors is a new volunteer role we are introducing at Envisage!

At Envisage, we have always served men and partners to pregnant women, but up to this point, have only had female Care Workers providing this service. We desire to offer men the opportunity to support their partners in making informed pregnancy decisions while accessing support themselves through our volunteer MENtors, because when men are supported in being healthy partners and fathers, women and children are better equipped to thrive.

I just found out I’m pregnant… what are my options?

Every pregnancy in Canada has three options…

Abortion.
Adoption.
Or Parenting.

But what do those options really look like?

You may know what your options are, but now that you are actually pregnant, have questions about processes, procedures, impact, and resources.

We are here to help!

Envisage Pregnancy Services is here for you with accurate information as you make your pregnancy decision. We believe that every person should have the opportunity to make an informed pregnancy decision. That’s why we use Pregnancy Care Canada’s Pregnancy Options Guide which has been reviewed by over 80 specialized professionals in Canada including perinatal nurses, family physicians, obstetrician-gynecologists, medical ethicists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.

When facing a difficult decision or circumstances, it is normal for your emotions to change sporadically. This is called “ambivalence”. When you are fully convinced of one decision, and a short time later, can feel entirely different about your choice.

When facing an unexpected pregnancy, ambivalence can cause a great deal of anxiety around making the right decision for you. So how do you make a decision about your pregnancy when your own mind and emotions keep changing?

First, we encourage you to pause.

Because emotions can change, it is important to make big decisions based on accurate information and with thought to each option before you and how it will impact your life long term.

At Envisage, we have decision making tools available to you with accurate information about Abortion, Adoption and Parenting so you can make an informed pregnancy decision. We also have tools that help you to consider your values, goals, dreams, and to ask yourself questions to help you consider how each option could impact your life now, in 1 year, 5 years, in 10 years.

When you take the time to consider your options and make an informed decision based on accurate information, researching resources available, and your own values and goals, you can be confident in your decision.

Gathering this information can feel overwhelming in already difficult circumstances… but you don’t have to do it alone! Our Care Workers at Envisage will walk with you, listening, giving accurate information, and guiding you through tools that help you examine your decision with care and support.

Think you might be pregnant… but how do you know?

You may be feeling some symptoms, but other factors can cause similar symptoms of pregnancy. If you haven’t taken a pregnancy test yet, don’t get too far ahead of yourself.

Some women experience many pregnancy symptoms, and others may experience only one or two.

Common pregnancy indicators are:
a missed period
nausea or vomiting
breast tenderness and enlargement
frequent urination
fatigue

A urine pregnancy test will typically be positive after the first missed period and is considered adequate to confirm a pregnancy. It is important to have a pregnancy confirmed by a healthcare professional.

Nervous to take an at home pregnancy test? We are here to help! Envisage offers free urine based pregnancy tests in a confidential setting within the context of support and accurate information to provide you with care and support in making an informed pregnancy decision.

Call or text and book your pregnancy test appointment today at 705-739-7280.

January is full of resolutions, goal setting, new routines, and planning for the year ahead… and it can feel like a lot of pressure to be on top of everything in your life.

But what happens when one revelation changes every part of your plan? When all of your vision boarding and goal setting feels like it is imploded by a single moment… and single test.

Facing an unexpected pregnancy can make the year ahead feel unknown, overwhelming, or even confusing… and those feelings are ok!

If your fresh start has been interrupted by an unexpected pregnancy, here at Envisage we want you to know three things…

1️⃣ You are not alone. Nearly 50% of pregnancies in Canada are unexpected.

2️⃣ It’s ok to take some time. Making the right decision for you might mean taking a deep breath, and taking the time to gather accurate information about all of your options so you can make the best decision for you that you will still be confident in 5, 10, or 20 years down the road. It’s ok to take the time to make an informed decision.

3️⃣ We are here to listen. Often when a woman finds out she is unexpectedly pregnant, she is unsure who to talk to where she can simply process her decision and be given accurate information without pressure or judgement. At Envisage, that is where we come in! We are here for you.

Informed decisions are the best decisions. If you are feeling scared, unsure, uninformed, pressured, or like you don’t know who to trust to talk to… we are here! Talking to someone you can trust about your options, what your values and goals are, and gathering accurate information can help you to find clarity and make an informed pregnancy decision that is right for you!

Envisage Pregnancy Services

In December 2006, Barrie Pregnancy Resource Centre (BPRC) opened its doors to provide support to anyone facing unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy related difficulty. Since that time, more than 1,6oo teens, women, men, babies and families have been provided with support through our organization.

In September 2018, BPRC opened a satellite location in downtown Collingwood, to serve South Georgian Bay, and the name “Barrie Pregnancy Resource Centre”, no longer made sense. So we changed our name, to allow us to serve in even more communities in the future!

Barrie Pregnancy Resource Centre is now Envisage Pregnancy Services!

Envisage means “To imagine or expect something in the future, especially something good” (Cambridge Dictionary).
