Here is what Sarah has to say about her experience volunteering with Envisage…

“Our church has supported Envisage since it began. It had been an organization that I knew about, and when the opportunity came for us to partner with Envisage as a church I was put in charge of this endeavor! I agreed to take the training to become a ⛪Church Champion. It was a natural fit and a place that I knew God was leading me to be a part of. This allows me to be the contact person in the church for all things happening and what is needed. From that I was asked to pray about going deeper in my commitment and spending more time to support the 🩵Kathy's Heart program. I took the training for this as well and thoroughly enjoyed learning more about what Envisage does in our community and with the clients. I have always loved holding babies and sharing knowledge about my own journey as a mom so it was a perfect fit. It fills my bucket to be able to come alongside these new moms and share tips and tricks, as well as making them feel empowered in their roles as mothers. The Strengthening Families Parenting Program was new to me this year and it was so fun to get to know the moms and kids who attend. These moms got a break and learned from the facilitators on all topics surrounding the first year of a child's life. The work and support they do with these moms is invaluable. I also love baking for this program and that there is a homemade snack for them each week.

I love serving in my community and this is an invaluable organization in our community. Though I have not experienced an unplanned pregnancy, it is a comfort to know that we can send people from the community (church and otherwise) to a place of loving support and encouragement.I'm excited to see where God is going to lead me in this organization for the next couple of years. There is flexibility in the schedule for me, and I get to be part of a wonderful organization doing wonderful things in our community at large!”

Who do you serve at Envisage?

…Can I access care?

Envisage’s mission is to provide care for anyone facing unexpected pregnancy or pregnancy related challenges. With nearly 50% of all pregnancies in Canada being unexpected, and many other pregnancy challenges surfacing in both unexpected and planned pregnancies - our vision to see People Valued, Families Thriving and God’s Love Shining covers a variety of circumstances.

Envisage has cared for…
🌱Girls as young as 13, terrified about the possibility of pregnancy
🌱Women in their 40’s equally terrified about pregnancy at this stage of life
🌱International students far from home and feeling alone
🌱Teens who are street involved, abused, and have mental health challenges, who want to have a baby to love - but aren’t in the position to parent
🌱Educated women, working in their chosen profession, with relationship difficulties making pregnancy a crisis for them
🌱College and university students with dreams and debts who feel like their future just came crashing down
🌱Teens from good homes, whose future all of a sudden looks very different
🌱Women who were so excited for this pregnancy, and then received an unexpected diagnosis for their baby
🌱Men who want to be supportive but feel completely unprepared to talk to their partner about their unexpected pregnancy
🌱Couples who were so excited to welcome a baby their dreams came crashing down into the grief of pregnancy or infant loss

Every single person is unique - and yet even with the wide diversity in the backgrounds of women served at Envisage, there are some common themes in what they face. Either pregnancy will change a planned future that looked bright and hopeful, or life is already very difficult, and pregnancy feels like the final straw that may break them.

At Envisage, we serve anyone facing these decisions and challenges.
You are not alone.

Wondering if two days at a pregnancy care centre training is worth your time?
Engage is much more than a standard volunteer course. At Envisage, our training is built on clear, accurate information and practical, compassionate support — covering why we serve, who we serve, how we serve, and what we do.

Keep an eye on our socials over the next couple weeks as we give you taste of just some of the incredible material covered in this informative training.

With nearly 50% of pregnancies in Canada being unexpected, it’s likely you or someone you know will face this reality at some point. Engage equips you not only to serve with excellence at Envisage, but also to offer informed, meaningful care and support in your everyday life.

Responses can vary after an abortion. They may depend on a woman’s age, stage of pregnancy, religious or cultural beliefs, previous mental health, the stability of her relationship with her partner, or whether others are pressuring her to have an abortion.

Women who experience negative emotions after an abortion have reported the following reactions:

- Sadness
- Guilt or shame
- Emotional numbing
- Depression
- Nightmares or flashbacks
- Thoughts of self-harm
- Alcohol or drug abuse

If you are experiencing these negative emotions after an abortion, Envisage can help! Whether it’s been days or decades we offer support and compassionate care within programs tailored specifically to your circumstances to help you find hope and healing.

You are not alone.

Envisage Pregnancy Services

In December 2006, Barrie Pregnancy Resource Centre (BPRC) opened its doors to provide support to anyone facing unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy related difficulty. Since that time, more than 1,6oo teens, women, men, babies and families have been provided with support through our organization.

In September 2018, BPRC opened a satellite location in downtown Collingwood, to serve South Georgian Bay, and the name “Barrie Pregnancy Resource Centre”, no longer made sense. So we changed our name, to allow us to serve in even more communities in the future!

Barrie Pregnancy Resource Centre is now Envisage Pregnancy Services!

Envisage means “To imagine or expect something in the future, especially something good” (Cambridge Dictionary).
