A few moments from one of our volunteers in Thailand, who is spending her days feeding animals, helping prepare a new otter enclosure, and celebrating Songkran with the sanctuary team and local village.
“The animals are so cute and fun to work with, especially when we feed them,” she wrote to us this week. “The staff at the sanctuary are really friendly and helpful.”
Thailand may be hot and humid, but it is also unforgettable! We love getting these little updates from the field, and don’t forget, this could be you!

This animal wasn’t saved by a hero — it was helped by someone who just really loves dogs. Welcome to our new series highlighting the everyday people making a difference through volunteering. First up: Georgina. She saw photos of the dogs at the Mexican shelter AEI partners with, and felt pulled to help. She’s not a vet or a professional in animal welfare — just someone who cares deeply about animals and decided to show up. You don’t need to be an expert to make an impact — sometimes you just need to care enough to get involved.

If volunteering with horses in Spain is not on your bucket list… it should be. Elly, our amazing volunteer who just got back from her AEI adventure would tell you the same!

Captured by one of our incredible AEl volunteers, this is conservation in action. Gibbons are endangered apes who rely on protected spaces like this sanctuary to thrive. AEl volunteers help support their daily care while learning about their behavior, social bonds, and powerful morning songs. It’s immersive, meaningful, and unforgettable. This is travel with a purpose.

Guatemala is one of the most biologically rich places in the Americas. Scarlet macaws once flew in loud, colorful flocks over the rainforest. Jaguars moved quietly through dense jungle. Today, many of those species are disappearing. Illegal wildlife trafficking has pushed animals like the scarlet macaw, spider monkey, and jaguar closer and closer to extinction. But this crisis isn’t as simple as “criminals harming animals.” To understand what’s happening in Guatemala, we have to look at the full picture — one that includes poverty, global demand, and the reality of survival for many rural communities. To learn more about this issue read the blog post on our website and linked in our bio.
