Home Care Assistance Barrie and Simcoe County

Home Care Assistance Barrie and Simcoe County Home Care Assistance is North America's premier provider of in-home care for seniors

We got into the this business because Domenic experienced the challenges his father had when diagnosed with Cancer while being the Care Giver for Domenic’s mother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia. We understands the pressures and stress on the family during these difficult times. Deborah's has cared for her Grandmother, travelling 2 hours to attend to her needs. She was there for her parents during their last breath and provided love, comfort and support to the families. We want to help families elimate the stress and support them with the evoling needs of Older Adults

Did you know that curiosity plays an important role in healthy aging?

Research from top Universities shows that staying curious supports cognitive engagement and emotional well-being as we age—and may even help protect against Alzheimer’s. The good news? Curiosity doesn’t require classes or long-term commitments. It often shows up in small, everyday moments:

• Wondering about a photo, memory, or piece of music
• Exploring a favourite topic through a short article or video
• Turning a walk, meal, or conversation into a moment of discovery

At Home Care Assistance, our caregivers support person-centred care that honours interests, pacing, and curiosity—helping your loved one age well by staying mentally active, feeling more connected, and maintaining a strong sense of purpose.

Big promises to “do better” can feel rigid, especially when health, energy, or daily rhythms are changing while aging. To honor International Day of Education (Jan 24), we invite individuals and families to consider a different approach: curiosity.

At Home Care Assistance, we are proud to recognize and celebrate Black History Month.

This month—and every month—we honour the history, achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black individuals who have shaped our communities, our industry, and our nation. We are especially grateful for the incredible Black caregivers on our team who bring compassion, strength, skill, and dedication to the families we serve every single day.

Home care is built on trust, heart, and service—and our diverse team is what makes our mission possible. We see you. We appreciate you. And we thank you for the care, dignity, and excellence you provide.

As we reflect on the legacy of leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Maya Angelou, we are reminded that progress is built through courage, compassion, and commitment to one another—values that guide our work every day.

To our Black caregivers, team, clients, and community partners: we celebrate you, we value you, and we are honoured to work alongside you.

Wondering if your loved one’s home is truly accessible for them? Try this 10-Minute Home Ease Audit to find out.

Start by setting a timer for 10 minutes and walking through the home with fresh eyes.

As you move through each space, ask yourself:
1️⃣ Is the walking path easy to see throughout the day?
2️⃣ Is the area well-lit at all times?
3️⃣ Are floors, steps, and furniture edges clearly visible?
4️⃣ Is the floor free of unnecessary clutter or obstacles?
5️⃣ Do bathrooms provide secure footing and support for safe transfers?
6️⃣ Are frequently used items easy to reach without bending or stretching?

If you answered no to any of these questions, small adjustments can often make a big difference in safety and confidence.

At Home Care Assistance, our team helps families create home environments that support comfort, mobility, and independence. If you’d like guidance on making your loved one’s home safer and more accessible, click here to keep reading or contact our team today:

Not sure if it’s time for home care? You’re not alone—and you don’t have to navigate the decision on your own.

Some common signs that additional support could help include:
• Mobility challenges, frequent falls, or difficulty with stairs
• Memory changes that affect safety, meals, or medications
• Struggling with personal care like bathing or dressing
• Changes in nutrition or household routines
• Feeling overwhelmed or burned out as a family caregiver

Every situation is unique, but early support can improve safety, comfort, and quality of life—for everyone involved.

As we embrace the month of February, we wanted to pause and celebrate the heart of our company—our team. ❤️

While Valentine’s Day is often associated with romance, at Home Care Assistance Barrie we see it as an opportunity to recognize appreciation, purpose, and connection in the work we do every day.

This month, our staff shared motivational quotes that inspire them in their daily lives. These reflections reminded us why culture matters—boosting morale, strengthening teamwork, and reinforcing that every role here has real meaning and impact.

When people feel valued and connected to a shared purpose, it shows in the care we provide and the pride we take in our work. We’re grateful for a team that leads with heart—today and every day.

Our Story

It’s our desire to extend a gracious and all inclusive “Welcome” to anyone who has the responsibility of care for an aging parent, family member or friend. Welcome to Home Care Assistance – The 1st franchise to open in Barrie and Simcoe County. We are Domenic Maccarone and Deborah Vollett. Domenic’s past in Sales and Marketing and Deborah’s in Nursing and Pharmacy in Healthcare bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in “Changing the Way the World Ages”

Sharing the same disappointing challenges with other home care services for our parents as with the Founders of Home Care Assistance, James and Kathy Johnson, a pair of Psychologists from California, we realized there must be a better way to help the Elderly live happier, healthier lives in their own homes. We found this through Home Care Assistance.

Here, we believe in offering a concierge non-medical service embracing a positive and balanced approach to aging centered on the evolving needs of older adults. We provide a high caliber of Care Givers, employ empathetic and responsive staff while covering all the activities of daily living for your loved one.

Perhaps you or someone you know are having the same challenges and stressful times with a mother or father’s evolving needs. Taking the next step is an emotional and important one. We are here to help.
