Parkinson’s disease is often misunderstood, even as more Canadians are impacted each year. It’s the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world, yet many people still associate it only with tremors — overlooking the wide range of physical, cognitive, and emotional changes it brings.
That misunderstanding creates gaps in care, delays support, and leaves many individuals and families navigating it on their own.
Awareness means recognizing the full picture. It looks like:
- A caregiver noticing subtle changes in movement or mood
- A healthcare provider listening beyond the symptoms
- A family member learning how to offer the right kind of support
- A conversation that brings clarity, not confusion
In Canada, more than 100,000 people are living with Parkinson’s and that number is expected to grow. Awareness is where better care begins, grounded in understanding, dignity, and ongoing support.
This April, we’re choosing to learn, to listen, and to show up, so no one faces Parkinson’s alone.
