I feel I need to share my thoughts after learning about the sad, heart wrenching death of Stephen “tWitch” Boss. I am sure most have seen posts, TikToks, news stories about the recent death of tWtich. Reports are that he died by su***de. He was a TV personality and most people probably knew him from the Ellen Show. As he was well known, his death has reached many around the world. While his popularity does bring more widespread attention to su***de and mental illness, each and every su***de is equally as sad, heart breaking, devastating, and life changing for family, friends and community members.
When I see or hear comments such as “how could they do that to their family?’ “it’s the family who suffers when someone does that”. “they had small children how can they leave them”. Or “that is a very selfish thing to do”…
I want to scream and actually vomit!!
Mental Illness is exactly as it reads…an Illness!!
We now have Dr assisted su***de available to those who qualify. I certainly do not know what all of the qualifications are, but I do know that you have to have a terminal illness for which there is no cure or hope of recovery, and the only end result is death. In the minds of some people who are struggling with the thoughts of su***de…they feel like they have a terminal illness. They see no cure, no hope of recovery. Their pain is excruciating, and they have endured it for so long and battled for their own lives within themselves until they just cannot fight any longer.
Many times they are the ones who always have a smile on their face, they are the life of the party, they always have a joke to tell to make everyone laugh. Why? Maybe they don’t want others to feel the pain they feel? Maybe that is the only thing that gives them any relief from their own pain? Maybe if they cry instead of laugh, they know they won’t be able to stop. I don’t have the answers.
I just want people to understand that they are extraordinarily strong people who love their families and friends but see no cure and no hope of recovery and the only end result is death. Every single soul lost to su***de is just as important as the other. I beg of you to never criticize or question someone who has lost their battle with an illness.
Please be kind and more thoughtful of everyone you meet.
