Let’s settle the debate… are they peepers or pinkwinks? 🐸🌌

Spring is here, and those high-pitched nighttime calls are back. They may be small, but they’re surprisingly loud.

You can hear them from quite far away, sometimes up to a kilometre.

Their sound sits in the higher frequency range. That’s the same range responsible for clarity in speech, like “s,” “f,” and “th” sounds.

If you haven’t noticed them in a while, it might not just be the time of year. High-frequency hearing loss often shows up first with sounds like this. You can still hear, but you start missing the finer details.

Have you heard them yet this spring? If not, it might be time to schedule a hearing test.

Two years ago, Ocean Audiology opened in Barrington with a simple focus. Provide professional hearing care close to home and make the process clear and comfortable for every client who walks through the door.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted us with their hearing care, referred friends and family, and supported a local clinic. Seeing familiar faces return and meeting new clients every week truly makes this work rewarding.

How is ear wax removed?

A variety of eardrop supplies are available for pick up at the clinic before your wax removal appointment, along with instructions that are relevant to your particular ear health.

Depending on your medical history and the location of the wax in your ear, an appropriate combination of wax removal methods may be attempted with your consent. These include removal with a small lighted pick called a curette, the use of warm water from a spray bottle that is low pressure in nature, or the use of a state-of-the-art Earigator machine that uses a steady stream of warm water to remove wax quickly and effectively.

What is earwax? 👂🤔

Earwax is a natural, healthy part of the ear’s self-cleaning system. It is produced by glands in the skin of the ear canal walls and is made up mostly of dead skin cells. It is slightly acidic and is the body’s intended way of helping to keep the ear healthy and protected.

Sometimes an earwax build-up can occur that temporarily reduces the ability to hear, can result in pressure in the head/ear, and can contribute to ringing in the ears, among other symptoms.​

Earwax can vary in texture from hard and dry to very soft. Hard wax is incredibly difficult to remove and needs to be softened typically for 3-4 days before removal can be attempted.
