Well, life with a disability has been an interesting one over the last 12 years, but today marks the eight-year anniversary of a new chapter of my life post-injury as after 51 months in the hospital I was able to finally move home to my house. It was very scary to me as I was moving home to an empty house where I would be by myself with my caregivers. As someone who spent so long time in the hospital and being in a situation where life and death could be a matter of a couple minutes if my ventilator popped off it was something I had to learn and figure out how to manage and overcome.

In these last eight years I have had a number of caregivers who have been the only reason I have been able to live independently at home on a ventilator. I am so thankful for every person who has worked for me over these eight years and cannot thank them enough for being there through some difficult times. There are not many ventilator-dependent people living independently on their own at home in the province of Ontario and Canada as a whole. When I moved home I had two more semesters of school to finish in 2015/16 and graduated from the University of Guelph in June 2016.

This little man has stolen my heart, he is one of the happiest babies I have ever seen. The Cumpson side of the family is part Irish, so Barrett it’s also part Irish. I made him this onesie for him to wear on his first St. Paddy’s day.

As we enter 2023, every industry is still faced with staffing shortages. I am looking to add at least one new employee and looking for them to be able to start as soon as possible. If you know anyone looking for a PSW job, please share this post or tag them in the comments.

Thursday night was amazing as I awaited the results of my first shot to become MPP for the riding of Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston. Unfortunately, it was not the result we had hoped and worked so hard for.

Even though we didn't win, we were still able to bring together over 9,000 people in the riding during this campaign. I learned from all of the work I had done throughout the campaign that change is needed in this riding. Especially after spending the last four years without a representative bringing the constituent needs to Queen's Park.

I did not do this on my own and had an amazing support system around me throughout this entire endeavour. My amazing caregivers (PSWs and nurses) and my dedicated campaign team and all the volunteers that helped out in one way or another. I also would not have been able to do this without the amazing support of my family and friends.

I ran as part of the NDP to create the changes that are necessary to help everyday people succeed in life. I plan to work with the NDP over the next four years and plan to run again in 2026.

I want to thank each and every person for the support and could not have done it without you.
