Program Design, the overlooked aspect of Fitness on the interwebs

You need good exercise technique AND smart exercise program design to achieve your goals and not get hurt - via acute injuries from a bad deadlift ex*****on or cumulative microtrauma from poor exercise choices that can lead to chronic pain or set you up for a 'surpise' injury to your knee, back or shoulder when you lift up your laundry bag as an example

Back pain? It could be this, you could have a deconditioned or inhibited deep abdominal wall AKA the TVA (transverse abdominis)

Why/how could this be? Well if you're a woman and have ever been pregnant 🤰

or you've ever gained a lot of weight in your belly (ie "a beer gut")

or you've been cut into for a gall bladder or C section surgery as examples

Or if you are chronically constipated, bloated or have any IBS/IBD conditions

Or if you have any disc herniations from T7 to L1 compressing nerve signals to the muscle

Any and all of these things can negatively impact your deep abdominal wall function

And without adequate tone here, you can end up with a lower belly paunch (even with low body fat), lower back pain, reoccurring shoulder, elbow, hip, knee or ankle injuries, even neck pain and headaches 😩

This is your center! Well the entire inner unit: the TVA, the pelvic floor, multifidus and diaphragm IA your center, your internal corset or weight belt

These work together to hold your organs in, protect your spine with segmental stability and provide a stable anchor from which to move your limbs ("You can't fire a Canon from a canoe! - Paul Chek)

This is just one assessment and one area I help my clients train to get out of pain, be more athletic, prevent injuries and have a flatter stomach! (Diet and lifestyle is important here too - my sulfur protocol inside FLOW Foundations can also help with bloating!)

Have lower back pain? I'll assess your spinal curves, your posture, your pelvic tilt, your squat and gait pattern

👉 But I'll also assess your head alignment, your ankles, your breathing mechanics, your gut health and bowel movements, your family and work stress, why? BECAUSE IT ALL MATTERS

Especially when your pain or injury seemingly came out of nowhere, we need to look big picture. We need to assess your whole body, we need to assess your organ health, we need to assess your psychological stress. My Story

I am a passionate, life long learner with a BSc in Human Kinetics from St FX University. I am a level 2 CHEK Practitioner and Holisitic Lifestyle Coach through the world renown and industry leading CHEK Institute. CHEK Practitioners are widely-recognized as the finest and most highly trained exercise therapists, strength & conditioning specialists and nutrition and lifestyle coaches in the world! With this training I take a truly holistic, 4 step approach to my exercise and lifestyle programs to help my clients overcome many conditions and improve strength, fitness and performance.

Other qualifications include TRX and Agatsu Kettlebell certifications, Can-Fit-Pro and CSEP PTS, level 1 Exercise is Medicine Canada Exercise Professional.
