Many people live with ENT symptoms for far too long because they assume they’re “normal” or something they just have to manage on their own.

Persistent throat discomfort, chronic sinus issues, voice changes, reflux symptoms, hearing concerns, nasal blockage, or frequent infections aren’t things you need to keep stressing about - or guessing about.

That’s exactly where an ENT specialist comes in.

A referral allows us to properly assess what’s going on, rule out anything serious, and help you understand why you’re experiencing symptoms, and what can actually help. Sometimes reassurance is the treatment. Sometimes there’s a clear, simple solution. Either way, clarity matters.

If something has been bothering you, advocate for yourself and ask for a referral.
Peace of mind is part of your health care too.

Acid reflux isn’t just a “heartburn” issue; it can affect your throat, voice, and overall ENT health.

Acid reflux occurs when stomach acid flows backward into the esophagus. When that acid reaches higher into the throat, it’s called laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), and many people don’t even realize it’s happening.

Common symptoms I see include:
• Chronic throat clearing
• A sensation of a lump in the throat
• Hoarseness or voice changes
• Chronic cough
• Sore throat without infection
• Difficulty swallowing

Over time, repeated acid exposure can irritate and inflame the delicate tissues of the throat and voice box, leading to ongoing discomfort and voice issues if left untreated.

You should seek assessment if symptoms are persistent, worsening, or interfering with your voice, swallowing, sleep, or daily life, especially if they don’t improve with basic lifestyle changes.

The good news? Reflux-related throat symptoms are very treatable once properly identified.

If something feels off with your throat or voice, don’t ignore it as your body is trying to tell you something.

📍If you’re experiencing ongoing symptoms, an ENT evaluation can help determine the cause and guide the right treatment plan. My practice North ENT is in Vaughan and I see patients from all over the GTA. Ask your physician for a referral.

🧬 Lymph nodes in the neck are reactive by design.

I often remind patients that small, movable lymph nodes in the neck can temporarily enlarge during infections or inflammation. In many cases, this means your immune system is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do, not that something serious is wrong.

That said, context matters. Duration, size, firmness, and associated symptoms all help determine whether a lymph node is simply reactive or something that needs further investigation.

If you’ve noticed a lump in your neck that’s persistent, changing, or causing concern, don’t ignore it. Peace of mind is important.

If you feel stuffy most days - not just when you’re sick - that’s your body telling you something isn’t working as it should.

As an ENT physician, I often see patients who’ve lived with constant congestion for years, assuming it’s allergies or something they just have to tolerate. In reality, ongoing nasal blockage can point to structural issues like a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates, or nasal polyps that physically limit airflow and drainage.

When sinuses can’t drain properly, inflammation lingers. That can lead to facial pressure, poor sleep, mouth breathing, reduced sense of smell, and recurrent infections.

The good news? Once we identify the underlying cause, there are effective treatment options, and relief is absolutely possible.

If congestion feels like your “normal,” it’s worth getting checked. Ask your primary care provider for a referral to see Dr. Aviva Fliker at North ENT in Vaughan and let’s get to the root of the issue.

Many people don’t realize that repeatedly clearing your throat can quietly irritate your ENT system. Each time you do it, your vocal cords forcefully slam together, causing micro-trauma to the delicate tissues of the throat and larynx. Over time, this irritation can lead to inflammation, hoarseness, a chronic “lump in the throat” sensation, voice fatigue, and even vocal cord changes.

What often surprises patients is that throat clearing is usually a symptom—not the root cause. It can be linked to reflux, post-nasal drip, allergies, sinus issues, or subtle structural concerns. The habit itself can actually keep the cycle going, making symptoms persist or worsen.

If you find yourself constantly clearing your throat, losing your voice easily, or feeling chronic irritation, it’s worth having it properly evaluated.

Ask your primary care provider for a referral to see me, Dr. Aviva Fliker, and let’s get to the root of what’s really going on. Your throat shouldn’t have to work this hard.

I often meet patients who’ve been living with symptoms for far too long (such as congestion, hearing changes, throat discomfort, sleep issues) because they’ve learned to push through or assume it’s “not serious enough” to address.

But your health isn’t something to put on the back burner. Small, persistent symptoms can quietly affect your energy, your sleep, your focus, and your quality of life over time.

Taking the step to get answers, ask questions, or seek specialist care isn’t overreacting - it’s advocating for yourself. And you deserve care that helps you feel your best, not just “fine.”

If something doesn’t feel right, trust that instinct.
Your health is always worth the effort.

I care for paediatric patients, too.

ENT concerns don’t only affect adults as many children experience issues that deserve timely, specialist care. I regularly see infants, children, and teens for a wide range of ENT conditions, and I work closely with families to ensure kids feel safe, supported, and heard throughout the process.

Parents may want to consider an ENT referral for concerns such as:
Frequent ear infections or persistent fluid in the ears
Hearing or speech delays
Chronic nasal congestion or mouth breathing
Enlarged tonsils or adenoids
Snoring or sleep-disordered breathing
Recurrent sore throats or sinus infections

Early assessment can make a meaningful difference, especially when symptoms are affecting sleep, learning, or development.

I currently have shorter wait times at North ENT Clinic, and I see paediatric patients from across Vaughan and the Greater Toronto Area.

If you have concerns about your child’s ear, nose, or throat health, speak with your primary care provider about a referral to see Dr. Aviva Fliker. Early care matters and help is available.

One sign I often see that suggests someone should be evaluated by an ENT is persistent snoring or waking up feeling exhausted, even after a full night’s sleep.

Snoring and disrupted sleep aren’t just nighttime nuisances. They can be signs of underlying airway or nasal issues that are worth assessing. An ENT evaluation can help determine what’s contributing and guide appropriate treatment.

If this sounds familiar, speak with your primary care provider about getting a referral to see me at my clinic, North ENT in Vaughan.
