A MESSAGE TO OUR PATIENTS REGARDING THE PROVINCIAL ELECTION
As we approach 30 years at Bay Bulls Family Practice, it's a good time to think about the future of healthcare on the Southern Shore.
Currently the 4 Family Medicine Specialists at Bay Bulls Family Practice care for almost 6000 patients from Goulds to Trepassey.
We know that many of you worry about what will happen when your doctor retires.
We have been unsuccessfully trying to recruit physicians to our practice to help care for more patients and to help ease the senior physicians to eventual retirement.
The future of healthcare involves team based care with various health professionals eg nurses /nurse practitioners, social workers, pharmacists, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals, all working together with family medicine specialists to provide the best care possible. A pilot project in the St John's area, in which a nurse and social worker work side by side with family doctors, has been overwhelmingly successful.
We feel that a team based approach to care in our practice will
- provide better healthcare for patients
-provide access for people who do not have a family physician
-attract younger physicians who want to work in a team based practice
We encourage you to discuss the future of healthcare on the Southern Shore with the candidates in the upcoming election and challenge them on this very important issue.
Sincerely
Drs Annette McCarthy, Rod McCarthy, Wade Mercer and Melissa Angel
