Many people don’t arrive at doula work logically—they arrive through experience. Through moments that broke them open and rearranged who they thought they were.

Whether it was through infertility, a complicated pregnancy, or the heavy stillness of loss, those moments often plant a seed... a quiet realization that we want to be of service at the moments that matter most.

In my latest blog post, I’m exploring a question I get asked often: Are Doulas Lightworkers?

A lightworker isn't someone who "fixes" a hard experience or masks it with toxic positivity. It’s someone who brings presence into the darkness.

Healing doesn’t happen when we are overwhelmed. It happens when the nervous system feels safe enough to stay present. By providing grounding, advocacy, and care, we help our clients integrate their experiences instead of being consumed by them.

That is why this work feels like healing work. It’s about helping people transform without losing themselves in the process.

I’m so looking forward to our online meditation practice today at 11:30 AM. It’s a simple time to return to the breath, use our malas if we have them, and listen inwardly.

I talk to so many healers who feel a pull toward the sacred but a massive "ick" when they hear the word God.

If that’s you, I want you to know... Your soul isn't "unfaithful"—it's just remembering. It’s remembering that the Divine is so much bigger than one word, one gender, or one religious box.

But how do we actually start untangling that "ick" so we can step into our full power as healers?

In this piece, I dive into something that is the very heart of what we do at By the Moon: When Holistic Healing Meets Doula Work. 🌿

For a long time, conventional doula training has focused primarily on the physical process of labor. But as many of you know, birth and the reproductive journey are never just physical events. They are emotional, identity-shifting, and deeply spiritual transitions. 🧘‍♀️

Reproductive care is a continuum… it doesn't start at labor, and it doesn't end at birth. It’s about meeting the whole person exactly where they are.

Walking Wisdom: Are doulas lightworkers?

We are a holistic and spiritual doula school so of course we view birthwork through this lens. In addition to the evidence based knowledge, comfort measures, practical techniques and business building skills, we talk about fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and loss work as spiritual transformations. We explore emotional and energetic blocks, inherited traumas, and developing intuition.

It’s the question we hear most often: "I feel so much better, but why?"

At By the Moon, we love that "post-session glow," but there’s actually such a beautiful reason for it that sits right at the intersection of science and soul.

🧘 The Science side: Energy work like reiki and reflexology helps regulate the nervous system. When you're in a state of deep relaxation, your body shifts from "fight or flight" to "rest and repair." Your heart rate settles, your muscles let go, and your biology finds its balance.

🧘 The Spirituality side: We are more than just physical beings. We are energetic beings. When we hold onto stress or trauma especially around fertility and birth our life force can feel stuck. Healing work is the process of honoring that spirit and giving it the space to flow freely again.

You don't have to choose between logic and magic. They are both working together to help you come home to yourself. 😌
