Wishing all my past, present and future clients a Happy New Year! May 2024 bring you everything you have imagined! 💛

And yes, I’m still here doing the beautiful doula role. I’ve just admitted to myself that I suck at handling multiple social media accounts, and that’s ok! 😉

I am accepting clients for the second half of 2024 for births in West Central Sask. If the support of a doula is something you are considering, let’s chat!

Great points to consider for your little ones first bath. 🫧👶

👶✨ If someone offers to bathe your newborn before 24 hours, consider these important reasons why waiting matters:

1️⃣ Body Temperature Regulation: Newborns get cold easily. Delaying the bath helps them regulate body temperature, crucial for their comfort and well-being.

2️⃣ Vernix Benefits: Babies are born covered in a protective, natural creamy substance, "vernix". It's an anti-bacterial envelope, promotes wound healing, and keeps baby's skin soft and moisturized. (These effects last up to a week!)

3️⃣ Stabilization & Adjustment: Newborns need time to stabilize and adjust after birth, ideally while being held by a parent.

4️⃣ Bonding & Breastfeeding: Holding off on the bath encourages bonding and skin-to-skin contact, which establishes breastfeeding.

Let's prioritize the health and comfort of our precious little ones! 🌟💖

Coming back from a little holiday to some good news! As of August 9th, epidurals are no longer being triaged in Saskatchewan hospitals. Supplies are good at this time.

🚨Important information🚨

🚨Important information🚨

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is asking expecting families to review pain management options with their care providers, in response to a North America-wide shortage of epidural catheter kits. This supply-chain issue may impact the ability for care teams to provide labour epidural analgesia for pregnant women, epidural anesthesia for caesarean sections, and epidural analgesia and anesthesia for intraoperative and postoperative use in general.

These kits are used primarily by anesthesiologists to manage pain in women while they labour and deliver. They are also used to provide postoperative pain management for major abdominal and chest surgeries. Hi!

I’ve been a little quiet on social media, but that doesn’t mean I’ve been quiet outside of it. 😉

I’m very much looking forward to this Labour Support Workshop at the Family Centre tomorrow evening. Still time to sign up if you would like to join us.

We will be discussing comfort & support measures during labour & delivery as well as having an open discussion around what to expect, understanding your options and more!

Thanks so much to the Family Centre for having me. 💛

Not my usual labor support share, but I thought this was a super interesting visual of the size of the uterus before and after birth.

The uterus begins to contract down following the delivery of the placenta, and returns to size approximately 6 weeks later.

Our bodies are so amazing! ❤️

Not the same as it was. And that’s ok!

Wishing you a joyous holiday season and an abundance of happiness and health in 2022! ❤️
