A woman of magic. A gifted healer. A source of truth and so much more!! THIS woman raises the bar. Meet Doña Otilia.

Doña Otilia lives in the Amazon Rain Forest and is a highly respected Curandera (female shaman) both in her local community and in the hearts of the many people whose lives she’s helped to transform around the globe. If you’ve known me for any length of time you will have heard her name or very likely one of the crazy stories from the last 13 years of working with her.

When the lockdowns began and travel became difficult we set out to find a way to bring her work (a piece of it anyhow) to a virtual audience. Today marks the completion of that journey and I am so excited to share this opportunity.

Doña Otilia has many areas of mastery in her healing practice; through the art of Tarot she is able to see a person's life story and how it entangles into who they are today. Beyond this she has the gift of seeing a person in their highest self, or the truth of who they are. She helps her clients unravel their pains and burdens and gives insight into the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of their beings. Her mastery with plant medicines is instrumental and unique to these sessions as she advises her clients on which plants to work with and the various ways to work with them. Her precise insights give a clear view of how to unlock blockages and discover a true state of balance in ones life.

I am so happy to be a part of this project and to support the new-to-her space of virtual connections. I hope that my friends, family and followers can benefit from her magical insights as much as I have.

How I became a warrior

Once, I ran from fear so fear controlled me. Until I learned to hold fear like a newborn. Listen to it, but not give in. Honour it, but not worship it. Fear could not stop me anymore. I walked with courage into the storm. I still have fear, but it does not have me.

Once, I was ashamed of who I was.
I invited shame into my heart. I let it burn. It told me, "I am only trying
to protect your vulnerability". I thanked shame dearly, and stepped into life anyway, unashamed, with shame as a lover.

Once, I had great sadness buried deep inside. I invited it to come out and play. I wept oceans. My tear ducts ran dry. And I found joy right there. Right at the core of my sorrow. It was heartbreak that taught me how to love.

Once, I had anxiety. A mind that wouldn't stop. Thoughts that wouldn't be silent. So I stopped trying to silence them. And I dropped out of the mind, and into the Earth. Into the mud.
Where I was held strong like a tree, unshakeable, safe.

Once, anger burned in the depths.
I called anger into the light of myself.
I felt its shocking power. I let my heart pound and my blood boil.
Listened to it, finally. And it screamed, "Respect yourself fiercely now!". "Speak your truth with passion!". "Say no when you mean no!". "Walk your path with courage!".
"Let no one speak for you!"
Anger became an honest friend.
A truthful guide. A beautiful wild child.

Once, loneliness cut deep.
I tried to distract and numb myself.
Ran to people and places and things. Even pretended I was "happy". But soon I could not run anymore. And I tumbled into the heart of loneliness. And I died and was reborn into an exquisite solitude and stillness. That connected me to all things. So I was not lonely, but alone with All Life. My heart One with all other hearts.

Once, I ran from difficult feelings.
Now, they are my advisors, confidants, friends, and they all have a home in me.

In the depths of my wounds,
in what I had named “darkness”,
I found a blazing Light
that guides me now in battle.

I became a warrior
when I turned towards myself.

And started listening.

This was us five years ago starting a new life with little idea of how things would turn out. ✨

With trust in our hearts we left our jobs in the city and moved to a little town called Black Creek on Vancouver Island. ✨

We bought a house with a beautiful yard in the spectacular Saratoga beach area. Our plan was to build an Apothecary in our front yard that served herbal goodness to both the local community and the tourists visiting the area.✨

We shared our ideas (mostly scribbled drawings) with the city planner and got the green light to proceed.✨

By The Sea Apothecary was becoming a reality.✨

We spent the next six months working on the building and created a line of herbal formulas and organic skincare. The process was exciting and it was easy to find our flow, he loves to build and I love to create magic and medicine with plants.✨

We opened our doors in September 2015 and it didn’t take long to realize that our little vision (born from a conversation had in the Amazon Rainforest) was very much the reality we were seeking.✨

Since then we’ve welcomed many people at various stages of health and wellness through these doors. Some looking for the deep dives into the shadows to heal a lifetime of trauma and others just wanting nice essential oils for their diffusers. Regardless of this we have felt so much support from our community near and far. Today the Apothecary is a thriving business and we couldn’t have arrived here without you!!✨
