The cull of the BC ostriches hurt my heart very deeply today. I share this prayer for anyone else who needs it. Author unknown
Prayer for the Ostriches and for All Beings in the Web of Life
Beloved Source of All That Is,
Heart of Creation,
Breath moving through every wing and every living thing
We pause in humility and grief, to hold in light the great birds of the Earth, those gentle giants who have walked in dignity since time began.
We call them now, the ostriches of British Columbia, the ones who stood beneath the open sky, guardians of ancient memory and wild freedom.
They have become symbols in our time
of how humanity still wrestles with fear,
fear of the unseen, fear of the unknown,
fear that would rather destroy than understand.
May we remember:
That every creature is a teacher,
and every virus, every feather,
is part of one living song.
The same breath that moves through human lungs moves also through the beating heart of the ostrich, through the soil beneath their feet, and the wind that carries the healing of the world.
We ask forgiveness for our blindness,
for the ways we have chosen control instead of communion, sterility instead of sacred stewardship.
And we ask for awakening, that new eyes may open in the minds of those who govern, study, and decide the fate of the innocent.
Grant us courage to imagine another way:
one guided by wisdom, not fear; by healing, not harm. Where herd immunity is honored as the resilience of Life itself, and where every being, feathered or flesh, is granted the same grace and respect we would wish for our own.
May the spirits of these ostriches be at peace.
May their memory stir the conscience of humankind.
And may the Circle of Life, once again,
be held sacred and whole
One Breath,
One Heart,
One Love.
Amen.
