Today we extended a warm welcome to our Māori visitors from New Zealand to Kehewin Cree Nation. We officially commenced National Aboriginal Awareness Week and our week-long visit with our friends with a traditional pipe ceremony.

We then formally welcomed our visitors with opening remarks by Okimaw Vernon Watchmaker, esteemed elders Dorene Moosepayo and Glen Youngchief, and Language Revitalization Portfolio Jamie John.

We also showcased the talents of our pow wow dancers with Black Thunder singing at the drum and concluded our welcome celebration with a round dance song.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Language Revitalization team, comprising Elissa Gadwa, Melissa Paul, and Janine Chesworth, for organizing such a memorable event. We also appreciate the efforts of Kehewin Health Services and KTCS staff assisting in todays event and Aldina Cardinal for preparing a delicious lunch.
