Age Friendly Community - Wynndel East Shore

Age Friendly Community - Wynndel East Shore Please feel free to share your insights to help our residents stay longer. To begin, we asked older residents in a survey about how they are doing.

This Age-Friendly Community page is a way for those living within the area known as Wynndel East Shore better understand how we can support each other to live well at any age. Grandparents, parents, youth, and children are all "aging in place" together in our small, unique, unincorporated communities and neighbourhoods, from Wynndel in the south through Sirdar, Boswell, Gray Creek, Crawford Bay, Kootenay Bay, and Riondel in the north. Our average age is 58 years, and residents are concerned about the need for better services to support "aging in place." We received an "Age-Friendly Assessment grant" from the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM). Our goal is to look at how our community is supporting residents and identify what more can be done. The survey analysis is available upon request. We have started to acknowledge what is working within our community through identification and then posting our findings here on this page. We are grasping what it means to us to be an "Age-Friendly Community". Then we plan to create awareness about the benefits of working at being an Age-Friendly Community so that one day we have a culture that considers Age-Friendly in decisions and plans.

It wasn't one person or one generation that is responsible for our present day health care system and policies. So what is the history of Canadian public health and safety? Here is a good read on the topic.

"Grandparents link the past to the present and point the way to the future. With exploding technology, we are prone to forget the real people and circumstances of our lineage. And grandparents have the responsibility of remembering and reminding grandchildren of their heritage. We all stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and there are lessons to learn from them, even if it’s what not to do." ~ DiAne Gates
