Registered Clinical Counsellor, Core faculty at Adler University in the MA Counslling Psychology program and Co-Founder and Director of Education for the New Earth Institute in Vancouver, Dr. Shahar Rabi was the Program Director at the Orchard Recovery Centre on Bowen Island, with years of experience in treating symptoms of trauma, addiction, depression and anxiety. His academic research has been mainly focused on mindfulness and body-centred interventions as means for well-being, connection and growth. His therapeutic orientations include: mindfulness based therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy, existential therapy, narrative therapy, CBT, archetypal therapy and embodiment work, where he addresses such issues as grief and loss, trauma, pain management, spiritual and/or emotional crises and personal development. Shahar believes that counseling should provide a healing space for his clients to explore the feelings, thoughts, behaviours and relationships that cause difficulties in their lives.

He has a great deal of experience in teaching and bringing together Eastern and Western wisdom in a practical and accessible manner. Shahar has worked for several years as a mindfulness and body-centred therapist and educator in Canada, Israel, and India. For his work with disadvantaged soldiers, he earned a medal of honour from the President of Israel. Shahar also has a broad spectrum of work experience as a choreographer, philosophy teacher, yoga teacher, meditation instructor, and even a clown! He brings his knowledge from all of these fields to his work with students and clients. As a meditation instructor, he draws on years of study and practice with prominent non-dual teachers from various traditions at monasteries in India, Nepal, and Thailand.

My Story

I am a registered Clinical Counsellor and Assistant Professor of Counselling Psychology at Alder University. I formerly served as the Program Director of the Orchard Recovery Centre on Bowen Island, with years of experience in treating trauma, addiction, depression, and anxiety. Ten years ago my wife and I Co-Founder the New Earth Institute, a non profit educational organization that offers programs, workshops, and public talks for people and communities seeking awakened and evolving lives. For my work with disadvantaged soldiers, I earned a medal of honour from the President of Israel.
