Are you struggling with the symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?

Do you have unwanted intrusive thoughts, images, and impulses that cause you anxiety and distress? Do you avoid certain people, places, or things that provoke this anxiety and distress? Do you have certain actions or thoughts that you do repeatedly to help to resolve the distress? If this rings true to you, there is an effective, research-based treatment that can help you.

Our Therapist, Stefanie, offers support to those struggling with OCD through a modality called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) which is the gold-standard, first-line therapy for OCD in adults, children, and adolescents.

ERP is a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Decades of research consistently show that when ERP is guided by a trained therapist and implemented properly, it helps individuals:

• Gradually face feared thoughts, images, or situations
• Reduce and eliminate compulsive behaviours
• Break the cycle of obsession → anxiety → compulsion
• Build tolerance for uncertainty
• Develop skills to take back control of your life from OCD

ERP is structured, collaborative, and paced carefully. You are never thrown into fears without preparation or support. Instead, using ERP, Stefanie helps you retrain your brain to respond differently — so that you can learn that you can tolerate anxiety and distress, and live a life free of rituals and compulsions.

Whether you're exploring treatment for the first time or looking for a new approach after others haven’t worked, ERP offers real hope and long-term relief.

To learn more about ERP we encourage you to book in for a free 15-minute consultation with Stefanie by clicking this link: https://www.bridgetherapyservices.ca/

✨And just like that, we’ve added another amazing person to our team – meet Stefanie✨

Stefanie Collins, Registered Social Worker (MSW)

My name is Stefanie and I have been working in the field for over 10 years with experience providing support to individuals and families with physical health concerns such as the diagnosis of a life-limiting illness or receiving palliative and end of life care. I have also provided extensive support to individuals who have experienced the traumatic death of a significant person, or whose grief journey manifests with complex symptoms and experiences.

Through my work in the field of grief and bereavement, I witnessed firsthand how obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) made grief even more difficult to manage, and how this mental health condition can be debilitating for individuals experiencing it. This led me to pursue intensive training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy for OCD. ERP is the first-line treatment for OCD and has many research studies supporting its effectiveness in helping individuals manage the symptoms of OCD.1 I am passionate about helping individuals take back control of their life from OCD and move towards a life driven by what is most important to them.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that the land on which our practice operates is located on the traditional lands and waters of the Ojibway Nation and the Huron/ Wendat Nation, that now includes communities from the Mohawk Nation, the Pottawatomi Nation and the Métis. This land is part of the 1923 Williams Treaties.

As mental health practitioners, we recognize the deep and ongoing connection that Indigenous peoples have to this land and the profound wisdom they hold in practices of healing, community, and care. We honour this history and the resilience of Indigenous communities and we acknowledge the harms caused by colonial systems—including those within health and mental health care.

We are committed to creating a therapeutic space rooted in respect, humility, and cultural safety and to continuously learning how to support healing in ways that uphold truth, reconciliation, and justice.

Children’s therapy is a form of counselling designed to support the emotional, mental, and behavioral well-being of children. It provides a safe space where kids can express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with the help of a trained therapist. The goal is to help children understand and manage their emotions, develop coping skills, and address any challenges they may be facing.

Children’s therapy can address a wide range of issues, such as:

🌾 Anxiety and stress: Helping children manage feelings of worry or nervousness.
🪴 Depression: Supporting children dealing with sadness or emotional numbness.
🌾 Behavioural issues: Addressing problems like aggression, defiance, or difficulty following rules.
🪴 Trauma and grief: Assisting children in processing and healing from traumatic experiences or loss.
🌾 Family challenges: Helping children cope with changes like divorce, moving, or family conflicts.
🪴 Social difficulties: Supporting children with social skills, making friends, or dealing with bullying.
🌾 Developmental issues: Addressing challenges related to milestones or learning disabilities.

Therapists use age-appropriate techniques to engage children, such as play therapy, art therapy, or storytelling. These approaches help children express themselves in ways that feel natural and non-threatening, especially if they struggle to articulate their feelings verbally.

The goal of children’s therapy is to help children develop healthier coping strategies, emotional resilience, and positive behaviors that will support their growth and well-being throughout their lives. Therapy may involve the child alone, with parents, or as part of family therapy to ensure the best support for the child’s needs.
