Fats are essential to your health because they support different functions in the body. Some vitamins, for instance, must have fat to dissolve so that your body can use them.

But some types of dietary fat are thought to play a role in cardiovascular disease. Also, fats are high in calories, so you need to balance your fat intake against the other foods you eat so that you don't take in more calories than you need.

Saturated fats and trans fats are harmful. Excessive intake can lead to serious illness. So, be careful.

Among those who develop symptoms, most (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing hospital treatment. About 15% become seriously ill and require oxygen and 5% become critically ill and need intensive care.

Complications leading to death may include respiratory failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis and septic shock, thromboembolism, and/or multiorgan failure, including injury of the heart, liver or kidneys.

In rare situations, children can develop a severe inflammatory syndrome a few weeks after infection.
