Spring time change is coming this weekend! Sunday March 12th, 2023 at 2am, the clocks will spring forward an hour.

Here are some tips to help your little ones adjust to the new time:

1. Start preparing- by moving your child’s nap time and wake time 15 mins earlier
2. Do Nothing- If your child has established healthy sleep habits and is already a good sleeper, simply put them to bed and wake them up at their regular time. They will eventually adjust.
3. After the time change- It is important to offer an earlier bedtime in the days following the time change. Even 15-30 minutes can help your child recover from the sleep loss.

Thinking of Making a Nap Transition?

These age ranges are provided as a guideline to help with the process. It is important to note, that each baby and toddler is different. Before making any changes to their sleep schedule, we should follow their lead.

Here are some helpful tips!

⭐️Resisting nap and bedtime can be a sign your little one is ready to transition down, in the number of naps they are taking each day

⭐️Do not assume because your little one is resisting the 2nd nap of the day, they are ready for one nap. Regardless of how tempting it may be to drop a nap, patience in crucial. Making the transition to fewer naps too soon, can leave your child overtired

⭐️Milestones play a role in your child’s sleep difficulties. You may think that bedtime struggles, resisting naps and night wakings are related to nap transitions, but they are simply developmental milestones

⭐️Early bedtime is key! During nap transitions our little ones need time to adjust. Offering an earlier bedtime can prevent over tiredness. It can take some time for your child to fall into their new schedule

What’s going on?

Your baby may be practicing their steps and babbling nonstop . They are gaining independence and no longer need as much daytime sleep.

What you can do?

You may notice that your child is taking a long time to fall sleep for the second nap. It may be time to wean them off the morning nap and transition from 2 naps to 1. It is important to take your time during this process, which can take a few months.
