𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 "𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗼𝘁." 🐕

It’s one of the most common questions we get at the clinic: "Why does my dog drag their bottom on the rug?"

While it might look funny (or embarrassing!), it's actually a sign of discomfort or itchiness. Your dog is using the floor to scratch an itch they can't reach. As shown in the graphic, it usually boils down to three things:

1. A**l Glands: If these small sacs don't empty when your dog goes to the bathroom, they become full and uncomfortable.
2. Parasites: Issues like Tapeworms are a common source of irritation.
3. Allergies: Just like humans get itchy eyes, dogs get itchy skin—sometimes in sensitive places.

💡 The Solution: If the "scooting" becomes a regular dance move in your house, it’s time for an exam. We can check for parasites, express those glands, or discuss allergy relief.

We all love a "Winter Wonderland," but for our furry friends (like this cute Corgi!), the snow can sometimes be more biting than fun. 🐕

Check out the graphic below for the top 3 signs that your dog has had enough of the cold. Specifically, keep an eye out for "The Three-Legged Hop"—if they start lifting paws off the ground, the cold is likely hurting their pads.

💡 Pro Tip: Shorten your walks on freezing days and try using paw wax (or "musher's wax") to create a barrier against ice and road salt!

Next time you are snuggling on the couch, turn that belly rub session into a quick health check! The "Monthly Lump Check" is one of the easiest ways you can advocate for your pet's health at home.

What to look for: As you run your hands through their fur, feel for any hard lumps under the skin or raised bumps on top. Make sure to check the tricky spots, like under the armpits and beneath the tail.

If you find something new, take a photo and note the size (e.g., "size of a pea"). Then, give us a call so we can check it out. It’s always better to be safe!
