More importantly, protecting their nap time is crucial. Uninterrupted REM sleep is absolutely essential for their memory retention and physical healing. For a long time, the rule of thumb was 6 months for everyone. But as veterinary science advances, we now know that one size does not fit all.

For our big dogs (like the beautiful Husky in the photo), waiting a bit longer—often until 12 to 18 months—can be crucial for their long-term joint health and bone development. Meanwhile, our smaller friends and feline family members often stick to the 5-6 month timeline.

It’s normal for dogs to shake their heads occasionally, but if your dog looks like this Beagle and can't seem to stop, they are likely trying to tell you something hurts.

Ear infections are incredibly uncomfortable for our furry friends. Aside from the shaking, you might notice them scratching at their ears, or you might smell a funky odor coming from the ear canal.

A note on home remedies: We know it's tempting to look up a DIY solution online, but please bring them in first!

🛑 Putting liquids into an infected ear without checking the eardrum or knowing the type of infection (yeast vs. bacteria) can cause more pain or damage.
