Please share widely. Let's support and empower women in government!

Her Seat at the Table (HSATT) is hosting an Open House on Wednesday, December 3, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Backyard on Aberdeen. It’s a casual gathering for women in Brandon and the Westman region who are curious about getting involved in municipal leadership. It’s a chance to get a feel for what’s possible, ask questions, and meet others who are thinking about getting involved. Here, women can find the basics on running for Brandon City Council (or other municipalities), as well as more support and resources related to running effective campaigns.

Her Seat at the Table was formed to inspire and help more women to run and successfully win seats at the Brandon City Council table and form a more inclusive government. Currently, Heather Karrouze, Councillor for Ward 1, is the only female councillor out of 11 council seats (including the Mayor’s seat).

HSATT is a grassroots led organization. Our mission is to support and empower women
to run for seats on Brandon City Council by providing the training, mentorship, tools, and community needed to lead with confidence and purpose. We aim to break down
barriers, amplify women's voices, and build a stronger, more representative Brandon for all.

Treat yourself to a meeting and discussion with Gerry on Saturday, November 8th!

We are finally at the end of our Manitoba Reader Series. It has been such a wonderful month of listening to local authors share their stories. On November 8, Gerry Friesen will be joining us to discuss his book, The Recovering Farmer. In this detailed memoir, the author delves into his experience with anxiety, depression, and addiction — and how he improved his mental health. ..
"Mental health, or lack thereof, has become a major topic in agricultural communities around the world. There is still a strong stigma attached to conversations around mental health, and an attitude that to admit you need help is a shameful thing. This book aims to challenge those attitudes. It explores the aspects of Gerry’s life as a farmer that contributed to his mental health, both positive and negative, and contains concrete tools for others to maintain and build their mental wellness." - excerpt from gerryfriesen.ca

Parenting brings highs and lows. Let’s explore how to move from shame, blame, and anger toward repair and connection.

Shame, blame, and anger can strain connections, but repair restores them. Showing your child how to own mistakes, apologize, and reconnect teaches resilience, empathy, and healthy relationships. Parenting is a practice of repair — and love.

As a member of the Professional Networking Group for Women, I had the honour today to hear about the incredible work being done by the Breast Cancer Cell and Molecular Research Lab right here at Brandon University.

Dr. Mousumi Majumder, Ph.D. Professor in the Dept of Biology and Canada Research Chair in Genotoxicology, proudly shared the work she and her team have been performing to better detect, diagnose, and treat breast cancer cells. She shared her hope, her humour, and her gratitude for the strides they are making.

We were gratiously welcomed to tour the lab facilities, students and staff eager to share their knowledge and answer our multitude of questions, even showing us different cancer cells they have been using. Everyone we met was enthusiastic and energized by their very important contributions.

It is difficult to imagine someone who hasn't been impacted by breast cancer in some way, and it was such a bright and inspiring experience to meet those working to make a difference.

Dr. Majumder was very humble, and when told she is a hero, she quietly said, "I'm just a researcher." I believe she and her team are going to save and change lives. There is nothing more heroic than that.

Pregnancy is a time of immense change and many questions. You want the very best for your baby, and it can be scary and confusing. We all worry if we are doing the right thing.

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) have released a statement and summary of the most recent research and recommendations regarding the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy.

You deserve to receive accurate, science-based information to care for yourself and your baby. It's okay to ask your doctor or careprovider lots of questions and to do your own fact-checking from credible sources.
