🎄The Spirit of Giving: Peters Donate $1 Million to New Critical Care Centre🎄

BRANDON, MB – In the true spirit of giving this holiday season, the Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC) Foundation is honored to announce a transformational $1 million donation from longtime Westman residents and community champions, Gord and Diane Peters.

Their generous gift supports the Foundation’s capital campaign, A Foundation for Care, which is raising funds for the build and equipment needs of the BRHC’s new Critical Care Centre, currently under construction. This state-of-the-art facility will significantly enhance critical care services for patients and families across the Westman region.

Gord and Diane Peters, who have been steadfast supporters of community initiatives throughout Westman, shared their motivation for this remarkable gift:

“We are pleased to support the BRHC Foundation in their ongoing work with the BRHC. The new Critical Care Center is a much-needed addition to our hospital’s ongoing development. Our medical facility in Brandon is critical in servicing the needs of our Westman community, keeping it strong and vibrant.”

The BRHC Foundation expressed deep gratitude for this extraordinary contribution.

“This incredibly generous donation from Gord and Diane feels like an early Christmas gift for our entire community,” said Stacy Senkbeil, BRHC Foundation Board Chair. “Their kindness embodies the spirit of the holiday season and will have a lasting impact on patient care across Westman. We are truly grateful for their continued support and belief in the importance of this new Critical Care Centre.”

The new Critical Care Centre will expand capacity and improve the environment for patients requiring intensive, complex care, while also providing efficient, state-of-the-art equipment for healthcare teams.

Those wishing to learn more about the A Foundation for Care capital campaign, or who wish to contribute during this season of giving, can visit www.brhcfoundation.ca or contact the Foundation office directly.

On August 9, 2025, BAPS Charities brought the community together in Brandon, Manitoba, for its annual “Spirit of Service: Walk-Run.” This inspiring event encouraged participants to step forward in support of the life-saving work of two national beneficiaries: the William Osler Health System Foundation and the CNIB Foundation, along with a local beneficiary, the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation. The BRHC Foundation donation of $2000 will be directed toward the Critical Care Centre Capital Campaign. ❤️

This year’s walk united over 250 community members who came together to raise awareness and funds for health initiatives and other charitable activities organized by BAPS Charities. The event showcased a broad spectrum of participation, from youth to seniors, united for a common cause. Thank you to BAPS Charities for your support! 👏

We are so lucky to have a strong NICU team right here at the BRHC - thank you to all of our NICU staff, you guys do amazing work!

For those who participated in the WestJet draw this year, the proceeds will go to support NICU/Pediatrics so that the staff can be as supported as much as possible through equipment needs!

For most Manitobans, those who will never experience the care, compassion and chaos of a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), images from popular television medical dramas are likely their only glimpse into daily reality within these highly specialized units.

“Most of our babies need constant monitoring, and with that comes constant alarms and beeping and so much equipment,” said Tracy Turon, a registered nurse who has worked at HSC's NICU since 1997.

“We’re providing care to some of the most vulnerable patients, as young as 22 weeks old, who are still developing and often cannot feed or breathe without support. The NICU is a very stressful place for babies and parents, and it is our job and privilege to help them every step of the way.”

Nurses in the NICU typically look after one to three patients at a time, depending on the medical needs of the babies. Feedings are supported every two to three hours, and assessments are completed almost as frequently, allowing the dedicated members of the care team to identify concerning changes or developments quickly.

“It was truly incredible to see first-hand that we are not just one individual unit. While we care for the smallest patients, we are part of a much bigger system and we will each do whatever we need to help anyone who needs us, even if it’s not our regular patient population,” Kubic said. “To me, that commitment to caring for others is what working as a nurse is all about.”

Today is World Prematurity Day. With compassion and support for babies born early or with complications, we aim to raise awareness and improve the challenges they and their families face.

🏥 Brandon Area Community Foundation Donates $115 000 to Support the New Critical Care Centre 👏

The Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation (BRHC Foundation) is proud to announce a generous donation of $115,000 from the Brandon Area Community Foundation (BACF) through their community grants program. This contribution supports the BRHC Foundation’s capital campaign, A Foundation for Care, which is raising funds for the construction and equipment needs of the new Critical Care Centre at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.

The new Critical Care Centre will provide an expanded and modernized space to enhance patient care, safety, and recovery for those requiring intensive and specialized critical care services. Construction is currently underway, with the facility expected to open for patients in early 2026.

“This contribution from the Brandon Area Community Foundation brings us closer to completing a project that will enhance patient outcomes and strengthen healthcare in Westman,” said Stacy Senkbeil, Chairperson for the BRHC Foundation Board of Directors. “We’re proud to see our community investing in such a vital project.”

Through its grants program, the Brandon Area Community Foundation supports projects that strengthen the community and improve quality of life for all residents. Their donation to the BRHC Foundation marks their single largest grant in their upcoming 2026 grant cycle.

“We were pleased to invest in the Foundation for Care Campaign because the community deserves quality facilities – and we will all need healthcare services at some point in our lives,” said BACF President Marc Alain. “The ICU spaces within the new building at Brandon Regional Health Centre will provide the latest equipment and infrastructure to support people in our region who need critical care."

"We encourage the community to step forward and support the campaign as the BRHC Foundation team and volunteers work to complete this valuable community asset.”
