Residents recently spent an afternoon repotting Christmas cactus plants with the help of our horticultural therapists Lynn and Meagan. The plants will be available for sale at the upcoming Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 15 at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre, with proceeds supporting programs for residents.

Activities like these are part of our horticultural therapy program, which helps residents engage their senses, express creativity and enjoy hands-on moments of calm and accomplishment. 🌸

We’re proud to celebrate Brian Pursley, Handyperson, as our Star of the Month for October! 🌟

He was nominated by Candice Lawrence, Housekeeping & Facilities IPAC Supervisor, who shared:
“Brian is an excellent example of a staff member who takes pride in his work. His strong sense of accountability shines through everything he does, reflecting his dedication to both his role and the organization. Known across the campus, from staff to children at the campus daycare, he always takes the time to stop and say hello.”

Last week, St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre and Stedman Community Hospice celebrated National Infection Control Week with activities inspired by the theme “Bridging Gaps, Building Bridges.”

From teamwork puzzles and surprise Q&A sessions to our Hand Hygiene Commitment banner and photo contest, it was a week full of learning, engagement, and fun, all focused on keeping our residents and colleagues safe.

A big thank-you to our IPAC team for leading the way and to everyone who joined in to keep infection prevention a daily habit! 🖐️

October 20 marks the start of Invisible Disability Awareness Week.
At St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre and Stedman Community Hospice, we recognize that many in our community live with disabilities that aren’t always visible. They can affect how someone moves, learns, thinks, or experiences the world and may include chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, or respiratory illnesses.

Together, we can help build spaces that are accessible, inclusive, and compassionate for everyone. Let’s keep the conversation going and continue making compassion visible. 💙
