It’s time for our annual request for donations! Please consider bringing a non-perishable food item or monetary donation to our office for our local food bank. In return you will receive a ballot for a chance to win one of two prize packs including a cordless water pick and a box of chocolates (enjoy the chocolates, then brush and floss 😁🦷). Donations will be accepted from Monday, November 17th until Tuesday, December 16th. Draw will take place Wednesday, December 17th and the winners will be contacted by phone.

Babies have a natural sucking reflex. They often suck on their fingers and thumbs because it makes them feel safe and secure. Some babies will also suck their thumbs to soothe themselves, especially when they are going to sleep.

Thumbsucking can cause changes to a baby’s jaws and skeletal structure before their permanent teeth start to erupt. Most children stop sucking their thumbs between the ages of two and four with minimal impact on their permanent teeth. If children continue sucking their thumb after their permanent teeth begin to erupt, their teeth may become misaligned and they may need braces or orthodontic treatment.

We can help parents encourage and guide their children to stop sucking on their own so they can enjoy a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Plaque is the sticky, germy mixture that forms on your teeth every day (especially where your teeth and gums meet).

If you fail to clean off plaque, it hardens into tartar — plaque and tartar can cause an infection called gingivitis. Yikes!

Don’t worry, though, because the most effective way to stop plaque in its tracks is by brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. You’ve got this!

People who floss regularly benefit from healthier teeth and gums, fewer cavities, and fresher breath. It’s easy to make flossing a regular habit and it doesn’t always have to be done at bedtime, just once per day. Floss while watching TV or listening to music, or even in the shower!

Men are more likely than women to experience periodontal disease, and it may also impact other areas of men's health.

Studies have shown that prostate health, cardiovascular disease, impotence, and even cancer may be associated with a man’s periodontal health.

That’s why it’s especially important that men come in for hygiene visits twice a year and monitor potential symptoms of periodontal disease, including swollen or tender gums and bleeding while brushing.

Tap water is the best beverage for your child’s teeth. It’s sugar-free, and it washes away leftover food and the acids produced by bacteria in the mouth. Fluoridated water also strengthens tooth enamel and makes teeth more resistant to decay. So skip the juice and encourage your child to reach for water the next time they are thirsty!

Ready for your close-up? Our patients often express interest in whitening their teeth for a special event, like a wedding, reunion, graduation, milestone birthday, or special vacation.

Depending on the whitening treatment you choose, you may want to start as early as three months prior to your special event. Then the majority of the whitening will take place ahead of time, and you can have a “booster” treatment right before you really need it.
