QUILT OF VALOUR

The residents at Applefest enjoyed a visit from Gay Gray, representative of the Army Navy League, Belleville. Gay stopped in to present the Quilt of Valor, which had belonged to former resident, Joice Foley. When Joice celebrated her 100th birthday at Applefest two years ago, the quilt was presented to her by her colleagues at the Brighton Legion. Joice passed away on her 101st birthday. Joice had bequeathed the quilt as a gift to Applefest, in honor of the Veterans who reside here, both past and present.
Gay spoke about her friendship with Joice over the years and stated that each of the Quilts of Valor made have their own unique pattern. None of the quilts have the same pattern. Therefore, each is very special and a great honor to receive.
The quilt shall be mounted on the wall with a memorial plaque next to it.

Easter weekend at Applefest began with a Good Friday service led by Pastor Maria. Today we enjoyed an Easter Tea, complete with warm hotcross buns and butter! Volunteers, Elizabeth and Domba, from the Hearts and Hands group, Evangel Church, assisted with serving at the tea party. Special thanks goes out to all the volunteers who assisted with these programs.

Congratulations to Tracy, Kitchen Staff member at Applefest, on her 35 years of service! Tracy is a dedicated employee who has provided direct resident care, worked in the laundry and housekeeping departments, before accepting her current position in the kitchen. Tracy takes great pride in her work and the quality of meals served to the residents. Thank you Tracy!
