Good evening, and welcome to another week of ! Today I'm going to discuss the benefits of unplugging yourself. In a world filled with wireless connections tying us to all the information in the world, it is so important we take the time to step back once in a while and enjoy the moment as we live in it.
📱 Cell Phones! These pieces of technology are nothing short of miracles, allowing us to speak with people around the world, capture pictures anywhere, and find all the information you could ever need right at your fingertips. However, there is such a thing as too much! Being constantly available wears down on our emotional wellbeing, so turning your phone off or even leaving it behind sometimes is a great practice to help disconnect from the network, and reconnect with nature.
🖥 TV/Video Games! Yes, both can be fun ways to pass the time, and no there's nothing wrong with a little electronic entertainment once in a while, but again moderation is key! Drowning yourself in TV or video games is at best wasting away your life when you could be developing yourself, and at worst can lead to health complications. With the world the way it is, it can be tempting to use any means neccesary to escape. Remember though, hiding from it is only going to allow it to get worse. Instead you can work to enact positive change and improve yourself to better handle the stress of the world.
📰 News! While it is certainly not a bad thing to be caught up on current major events, one of the biggest problems people run into in the information age is too much information. Our minds were not meant to process so much all at once, and to make matters worse bad news makes better headlines so we are constantly bombarded by bad news if you allow ourselves to be. Limiting yourself to local news and major world events is a much healthier way to keep up, and if you keep in contact with other people in different areas you can share news worth sharing while avoiding hearing about every child who didn't make it home from school. While these stories are obviously heartbreaking, reading them day in and day out wears on your mind.
