Day 4: Ravens! I know I said Animals a couple days ago, but ravens hold a special place in my heart. They are my beautiful, intelligent creatures who inspired my name and frequently bless me with their presence. I live around the corner from a nest, and love hearing ravens cawing by my window 😊

Day 1: Spending time with my friends! Yesterday I went out with one of my closest friends, and it was a delightful time! Gelato, hot chocolate, and and beautiful view made for a great day! 😊

Hello again from Gananoque! I'm here with one of my best friends, reporting for another week of ! This week we'll be going over some excellent ways to stay active and get the blood flowing even when the winter makes you want to stay indoors and hibernate the cold away.

🥼 Dress Warmly! First and foremost, when you are going outside in weather that makes the air hurt your face, you need to dress warm! Hats, coats, mittens, and more! Minimizing exposed skin is key to maintaining your body temperature in weather like this, especially when the wind sends arctic temperatures down our way.

🥾 Walks! Movement keeps your body producing heat faster, so by going on walks, hikes, and so on you can keep your heart pumping strong and sending heat to all your extremities. Try getting off the bus a few stops early, biking to work, or walking instead of driving when possible. It's good for you, and it's good for the environment!

🧘‍♀️ Yoga! While this isn't neccesarily something I would recommend doing outside in colder temperatures, it is a good activity to do in studios which can keep you active and getting out of the house. Staying stagnant is your energy, so any excuse to get moving is solid!

🦉 Animal Watching! Another fun thing you can do when the winter is here is get out into the local woods and see who might want to say hello. While many animals do hibernate, there are still many more who do not. Ravens, owls, foxes, and more can be found in my local area, and I'm sure you can find plenty too!

What's this? A that isn't Hellenic? It is indeed! A very good friend of mine inspired me to dive a little into Slavic folklore, and I was drawn to Morena! While her name varies slightly depending on the country, this Slavic Goddess of Death, Rebirth, and Winter is powerful! Along with her counterpart Vesna, the two represent the cycle of the earth warming and cooling with the seasons.

In many Slavic countries, this cycle of the seasons is celebrated even in modern times. As the Vernal Equinox approaches, many will use effigies to represent Morena in a tradition known as The Drowning of Morena. In this tradition, people throw these effigies into the frigid waters of the sea, the harbor, or anywhere else nearby that is appropriate.

This tradition originated from the idea that it would encourage Morena to leave the area, making room for Vesna to appear and bring warmth, safety, and light where there once was cold, danger, and darkness.

While Morena is associated with darkness and danger (and in one legend was even possessed by an evil spirit), she is not explicitly evil herself. Rather, she is an essential part of the world much like Nyx. Without the cold, the cycle is incomplete and nature would not exist in the way it does now.
