Had a long full day of learning yesterday!
Received a Progressong Ballet Technique level 1 Certification!

I'm so excited to continue to work with young dancers and using this new knowledge to have them achieve their dance dreams!

Proper technique, strength and flexibility are the key foundations of all disciplines of dance.

I'm excited to be re-invergerating my love of dance by helping new dancers become the best version of themselves. Weather it's just building on technique they currently have or rehabing through an injury, and having them leave my care stronger then when they came in!

If you are a parent of a dancer and are looking to fill some technique gaps, build more strength in specific skills or are dealing with an injury please DM for more information!

Client with neck problems...bilateral numbness in hands....has a physical job....had been off for months.

He finally came to see me. I assessed his issues and treated accordingly.

He had tried chiro/physio for months with no change.

Find the cause of the problem and treat the whole person not just the symptoms!

If you are a dancer or have a child that is a dancer.

A huge component of technique is your turn out.

The turn out does not come from the feet OR knees, it starts at the hips.

The hip muscles, need to rotate the knee out to protect the joint the knee joint, and not allow for the knees and feet to prontate, or "fall in"

Keeping the pelvis in a neutral position, and using the hip external rotators while going through these exercises can eleviate future knee and foot issues as dancers grow and progress.

If you are rehabbing for running or sport are you using hopping progressions??

If not you are missing a key phase in the rehab process.
As running is especially hoping from foot to foot, you should be using it as a rehab drill.

Video 1. Is a lung with reach. In this drill you want to step out and get the weight right over the mid foot. You should land and NOT sink through the knee. Reaching outside our bas of support just adds a level of difficulty...you should stay over your mid foot for at least 3 seconds and repeat.

Vidoe 2. Single hop stick with reach. Hop onto affect leg and stick with reach. Again you should land on the mid foot with slight bend in the knee but you need to STICK the landing...there should be no sink into your knee. That will only exacerbate any knee issues. Here we want the gastroc, soleus, quad, hamstring and glute to all be working as one using when landing.

Video 3. Hop hop stick with reach.
On each hop you want to be landing and pushing off through midfoot and sticking at the end with no sink through the knee...hold the stick for at least 3 seconds ans repeat.

Lastly you could do a continuous hop for 10-20 hops to ensure you have cleared any joint for pain before running

These exercises can also be used as a warm up to prime up your leg muscles to all work together before you run or get on the pitch to play a sport!

If yoi can't hop Pain-free.. you aren't ready to return to running or sports!

I have been working with a 9yr old competitive dancer for a few weeks. (Comp=competition)

She came to me with calf tightness. Turned out, she had very little activation through her foot muscles, (big toe issues) that were causing her calf tightness.

I assessed and realized her claves were not the issue it was her foot muscles that were not helping her legs through her repetitive jumps.

Getting to the root of the issue as to what is causing the muscles to fire improperly is what you need to do as a therapist!
