When I think about treatment plans, I don’t just think about what we’re doing.

I think about how long it’s going to take.

Because one of the biggest gaps in patient care is that we’re often thinking “leave now”…

And patients are thinking “arrive by.”

In this week's episode of The ND Gap, I walk through how that mismatch shows up and how to have better conversations around timelines, expectations, and what’s actually possible.

This week on The ND Gap I’m breaking down one of the biggest gaps I see in patient care: timelines.

We’re thinking “leave now.”
Patients are thinking “arrive by.”

And if we don’t align those expectations, the plan can look like it’s not working… even when it is.

This is a simple shift that changes how patients understand their care.

Attracting people into your practice isn’t just strategy.

It’s energy, behaviour, and how you relate to the work you’re doing every day.

I think we’ve started to label anything that feels hard as burnout.

Feeling challenged.
Feeling stretched.
Feeling like you’re figuring something out in real time.

That’s not always burnout.

In this conversation, we talked about how growth can feel uncomfortable and how that discomfort is often part of stepping into something bigger.

Burnout isn’t the same as being pushed.

And if we treat it that way, we risk pulling back from the very things that help us grow.

If you haven’t listened yet, go back and check out last week’s episode of The ND Gap.

When I think about leadership in healthcare, I don’t think about titles.

I think about how we show up.

Because expanding the role of naturopathic medicine isn’t something that happens automatically, it happens when we step into conversations, explain our thinking clearly, and are willing to be part of the system.

In this episode of The ND Gap, I sat down with Emma Pollon-MacLeod to talk about what that actually looks like in practice.

Because leadership doesn’t come from waiting.

It comes from participating.

Clinicians don’t get better at most things after a 1 hour session. They especially don’t get better at changing their bias.

Changing your bias needs repeated exposure to content and people that dismantle the way you think and reinforce that it’s safe for you to change.

NDs have historically described a lot of restrictive diets and have contributed to weight bias. Our work is to constantly support you as you rewire how you practice to be the best you can be. Especially on topics that cause harm to patients if we don’t work on ourselves 💕.

You can’t say you want a busy practice… and then resent everything that comes with being busy.

Those two things don’t coexist.

One lecture won’t fix it. We have evidence it won’t.

Next week’s Grand Rounds is important. It’s pulling forward a thread on the simultaneous truths that perimenopause and PCOS are both obesogenic AND providers cause iatrogenic harm when approaching weight loss in patients.

You can get better at this. But not by yourself (we have evidence for that too).

If you want to join us next week, send me a dm.

If we’ve read every paper and the answer is pretty simple, (and the same as last year) is it basic or is it just correct?

What do you think?
