My kids are 14 and 16 and guess what?

They take more time than they did when they were 8 and 6.

Their lives are bigger, sports are bigger (read: enormous) and their problems are bigger. They need more support, have more conversations and take more strategy than they did when “they were younger”.

The number one reason I hear clinicians delay doing something for themselves or for their career is that their kids are too young.

What they mean is that parenting is hard and it takes a lot of time.

I’m here, from a few years older than many of you to say it doesn’t get less time demanding. If you’re procrastinating on your career/life, you will procrastinate when they are older too.

I opened my clinic when the kids were 1 and 3. They were too young. AND if I tried to open it this year, I’d actually have less time to do it than I did then.

Love notes from 20 years post graduation ❤️.

Take what you need.

Last week on the podcast, I sat down with Dr. Laura Jasmin, for a conversation about what it actually looks like to build a sustainable, meaningful career in naturopathic medicine.

We talked about practicing in smaller communities, the power of strong referral relationships, and why clinician community is one of the most underrated supports we have in this profession.

This wasn’t a conversation about rapid growth or perfect systems.

It was about consistency, connection, and practicing in a way that allows you to stay in this work for the long haul.

If you’re navigating questions about impact, direction, or how to build something that feels both aligned and durable, this episode offers a grounded perspective worth revisiting.

We've all done it.

Pedestalizing the slog.

We make small comments to our staff, our patients and our friends that imply that you're giving more than you're receiving, unsupported and that everyone should feel sorry for you for being a practitioner.

The real leadership move is to stop complaining about practice and support yourself enough that it's an absolute joy to go to work. What would have to be true for you to stop complaining about it?

This week on The ND Gap, we focus on something that doesn’t get talked about enough in clinical training: how community supports confidence.

Having trusted colleagues to think with, reflect with, and learn alongside changes the way you practice.

This episode makes a strong case for why none of us are meant to do this work alone.

This episode is a reminder that we don’t build strong practices on our own.

Whether you’re practicing in a small town or a major city, connection, collaboration, and shared learning shape how confident and sustainable your work becomes over time.

These were some of the key themes from my conversation with Dr. Laura Jasmin, ND on this week’s episode of The ND Gap.

If you haven’t listened yet, it's available on both Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
