BACK PAIN IN PREGNANT WOMEN IS SIGNIFICANT, SAYS SYSTEMATIC REVIEW. A recent study has shown low back pain during pregnancy may be more common than originally thought.
A recent systematic review gathered relevant information about back pain during pregnancy. They
reviewed 28 studies with a sample size of 12,908 people. They discovered that the global prevalence of back pain in the first trimester of pregnancy is 28.3%, in the second trimester is 36.8%, and in the third trimester of pregnancy 47.8%. The authors concluded that the overall prevalence of back pain in pregnant women was significant and that greater awareness is needed.
WFC Public Health Committee Chair, Dr Claire Johnson, commented, “Since the majority of patients who seek chiropractic care have back and neck concerns, chiropractors are in a perfect place to assist women who are pregnant with their back health. Knowing the prevalence of back pain in pregnant women may help inform policy makers and the healthcare system about how chiropractic can play an important role. ”
