Cold weather is here, so we want to remind everyone to take appropriate precautions for your pets. Different dogs will need different support for cold and snowy weather. Big dogs with double coats and fluffy feet might love the cold and need no clothes or protection - think Huskies, Newfies etc. Smaller dogs or dogs with short coats will lose heat quickly and need things like coats and booties - think Terriers, Bulldogs etc. Young and old dogs will also need a little extra care. Personal preferences also need to be considered, because not all big dogs like cold weather and some small dogs want to dive in the snow all day. Remember that ALL DOGS need to be monitored in extreme cold weather and snow storms and time outside should be limited accordingly. Stay safe and warm this weekend! ❄️ 🥶

Happy New Year! 🎊 2025 has come to a close, and as always we want to send out a big *Thank You* to all of our amazing clients for sharing their favourite fluffy friends with us this year. We love meeting new puppies and kittens and watching them grow up with their families over the years. Although we love sharing happy visits of puppies and kittens, we also said goodbye to some of our favourite senior patients this year. Whether 2025 brought you a new family member, was another year spent loving your furry friends, or was the year you said goodbye, we truly appreciate being part of your pet's journey. Thank you and we can't wait to see what 2026 brings Orchard Animal Hospital!

Keira is 1.5kg of absolute cuteness! Tiny and adorable, she was an absolute superstar for her spay yesterday. Tiny little pets like Keira can require some extra TLC during anesthesia and surgery, but our amazing team made sure she was warm, happy and safe all day long. She also looks pretty fabulous in her pink onesie! Way to go Keira!! 🩷

Ticks are still very active, even with the recent snowfall! One of our patients recently had a tick removed and sent for testing, coming back POSTIVE for the Lyme bacteria. We continue to have reports of ticks in the area, specifically Black Legged (Deer) Ticks, the species that can carry Lyme disease. Deer Ticks prefer the cool weather of fall and spring, and aren't put off by frost or a single snowfall. If the temperature at ground level is 0C or warmer, ticks are active! We strongly recommend year-long tick prevention, especially if you and your dog spend time in forests, trails or fields. Contact us today to pick up your pet's tick prevention!
