Empathy. It’s the capacity we share as human beings to step into each other’s shoes. To understand where they’re coming from and what they’re feeling. To listen hard and refuse to judge. It’s also one way to reduce and resolve conflict.

Did you know that you can use acupuncture for labour induction? There is a growing interest in complementary and alternative methods for labour induction as medical inductions can have significant side effects. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW? There is evidence to suggest that acupuncture can increase the readiness of the cervix for labour. From a physiologic perspective, it's hypothesized that acupuncture can stimulate the uterus through increasing the secretion of oxytocin and/or increasing the parasympathetic stimulation of the uterus - either way, promoting uterine contractility. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, acupuncture can be used to draw the energy ("Qi") down thereby promoting uterine contractions. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you interested to incorporate acupuncture as a part of your labour and delivery plan? Contact one of our naturopathic doctors today! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Fiber is easily one of the most made recommendations to address gut health. Fiber can help to alleviate both constipation and loose stools! Yes. Both constipation AND diarrhea, depending on what the concern is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is the how: broadly speaking, there are 2 types of fiber- soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber is fiber that can be dissolved in water, creating a gel-like consistency. Insoluble fiber is fiber that cannot be dissolved in water. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Soluble fiber is ideal for alleviating loose stools because it helps to soak up the excess water present in the gut. Sources of soluble fiber include: oranges, bananas, beans.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Insoluble fiber, on the other hand, is ideal for relieving constipation because it acts like a brush, sweeping the gut and bulking up the contents to stimulate movement. Sources of insoluble fiber include: whole grains, vegetables, wheat bran. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Dietary sources of fiber will often contain both of these fibers, which is why fiber gets recommended for constipation AND diarrhea. However, fiber supplementation can be exclusively soluble or insoluble fiber. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Always consult your healthcare provider before starting any supplements to make sure it's right for you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
