Our staff are all real people, with busy lives, who face challenges to staying consistent with exercise.

They sometimes fall off the wagon, and as their lives change they have to adapt to what's going on.

That's why they're good at helping clients strategize and address their barriers - they do it in their own lives too, because they know how important exercise and movement are!

Tamara is a big fan of:
➡️ scheduling exercise in
➡️ following pre made programs or going to classes
➡️ using the time you have available instead of sticking to strict timelines - something is better than nothing!

When working with clients she reminds them that it might take trying a few different strategies before you find the one that works for you.

Most people identify time as a barrier, and there are many different strategies you can use to address that:

✔️ shorter workouts
✔️ workouts from home
✔️ working out at the start of your day
✔️ working out immediately after work
✔️ and many more..

but not every strategy will work for every person.
You have to find that strategies that work for your circumstances, and your brain 🧠

Different seasons of life put varying demands on our time and energy.

What works in one phase, may not work in another, so adapting strategies is key!

Physiotherapist Natalie Lehto is a master at finding ways to fit exercise into the many seasons of life 🙌

She’s do adept at helping her clients with this because it’s something she puts in practice in her own life!

As a working Mom, there are lots of demands on Natalie’s time, and she has adjusted her exercise routine many times over the years to fit these demands.

Here’s where she’s at these days:
👟 Walk and chat with good friends and walks with the dog
🏋️‍♀️ Weights, yoga and pilates videos at home
🩰At home ballet - something new and joyful!

Her biggest barriers to exercising regularly are:
⏰ Time
💵 Budget
🧠 Energy and the mental effort of planning

How does she address these barriers?
✅ Free Youtube videos for pilates, yoga and ballet - helps with budget and doesn’t involve planning a workout!
✅ Exercise in small chunks - even just 10 mins
✅ Exercising while making dinner
✅ Exercising at home in whatever she’s wearing

Natalie’s biggest tips:
➡️ Choose exercise you enjoy!
➡️ Use exercise as a social event - combining time spent doing movement, being outdoors and nurturing good friendships at the same time helps with accountability and filling your cup as a whole person!

And remember - you don’t have to do the same type of exercise all year long.

Natalie participates in the Terry Fox Run yearly, and though she used to run year round, now what works best for her is to introduce running to get ready for the race and then she tapers off.

How has she done that? By maintaining some flexibility in her approach!

➡️ When her kids were small - she exercised before they were awake, or brought them along for the ride.
➡️ When time is tight, shorter workouts are on the schedule

She knows that consistency is key, so that's where she puts her focus.
