🎉 Exciting News Alert! 🎉 We’re thrilled to introduce the newest addition to our team, Dr. Cindy Ho, OD, PhD! 👓✨ With an impressive background and a passion for advancing eye care, Dr. Ho brings a wealth of expertise to our practice.

🎓 Dr. Ho earned her Doctor of Optometry degree with Dean’s Honours from the University of Waterloo in 2000, followed by a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia in 2008. Her dedication to the field was recognized when she was named Optometrist of the Year by the BC Doctors of Optometry in 2022. 🏆

💡 Dr. Ho’s research, conducted in collaboration with leading institutions, focuses on visual perception deficits in individuals with amblyopia (lazy eye). Her work has been published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and contributes significantly to our understanding of eye health.

👁️ On the clinical front, Dr. Ho’s interests span a wide range, from specialized scleral lens fitting to vision development in children. She is committed to providing comprehensive care, including co-managed treatment for patients undergoing concussion rehabilitation.

Last week both Drs. Ivan and Petar became certified to offer Eyeprint Prosthetic Scleral Lenses.

These are extremely customized contact lenses that utilize an impression of the ocular surface to match the exact shape of an individual’s eye.

We are very excited to offer this technology to our patients and can’t wait to get our first batch of custom lenses in. The impression process can look a little freaky but is done without any anaesthetic!

We were super excited to work with and their new microvault technology for this patient! He has an extremely irregular cornea that required a custom designed scleral lens. He also suffered from a raised lesion (pinguecula) on his sclera that was causing irritation where the lens was landing. The solution was to create a small raised area to vault it completely. He is now able to see 20/25 and wear his lenses comfortably all day long!

We are extremely excited to be able to improve how we care for our myopia management patients!

The Zeiss IOL Master allows us to measure the axial length of an eye to the hundredth of a millimetre. This is extremely important as increasing axial length is the cause of increasing myopia or nearsightedness. A few months ago, our patient Matea (8 years old) came to see Dr. Petar. Her parents noticed that she was starting to squint when looking in the distance and was having difficulty seeing the board when she returned to school.
With the shift to increased indoor and screen time like most children these past two years, this had led Matea to develop Myopia.
After discussing all of the options to correct and even manage her Myopia, it was decided to take a topography scan of her eyes, which Matea did great, and design custom Orthokeratology (“OrthoK) lenses for her. With a little practice, Matea was able to insert and remove the lenses herself!

This technology we have in our office allows Matea to wear the lenses at night while sleeping and when removed in the morning, even after 1 night, she is able to see 20/20 throughout the day. These lenses also provide the added benefit to prevent any further progression of nearsightedness (ie. Myopia).

Her parents have mentioned how much of a difference this has made on her daily routine, that “it’s a whole new world” to her and that she continues to wear the lenses successfully each night. Giving Matea a high five for scoring 2 goals in her soccer game the first weekend after wearing OrthoK lenses!
