Travel brings fun and excitement to our lives, but it can also be aggravating for the knees, hips, back and shoulders. First there's the journey to get to our destination, which involves long periods sitting in a car, bus, train or airplane. Once we arrive we may be burdened by luggage and backpacks that may cause injuries to our shoulders and backs. Pancakes are a fall comfort food typically made with a combination of flour, milk and egg and smothered with gooey syrup. Did you know that there are a lot of ways to make your pancake healthier? Increasing protein and nutrients in your everyday diet supports recovery and helps you heal faster. Try substituting some or all of your flour for whole-wheat. Add oats which are full of nutrients. Reduce the flour content and add a smashed banana. Don't forget the blueberries which provide vitamins and antioxidants. Finally, make sure you use real maple syrup. Maple syrup may cost a few dollars more, but it's both more flavourful and healthier than sugar-based pancake syrups.

As the weather starts to get cooler, it can be tempting to skip the warmup and go right into the main exercise in order to avoid feeling the chill of a fall morning. However, a warm up can not only warm you up, but it also warms up your muscles and helps to prevent injury. When your muscles are warm, they are better at contracting and relaxing. You will also experience a wider range of motion and get more out of your workout. Take a few minutes to get in some active stretching and a brisk walk or easy jog before ramping up to your run, game or other intense fitness activity.
