Beautiful Lucy Pupdate:

"Hi Kim,

I hope you are doing well and enjoying a little downtime before your next litter of pups arrive. I wanted to send you a p-update on my little Lucy.
Lucy is a beautiful pup and I adore her beyond measure. She is a very sociable little girl and we are constantly stopped on our walks by others saying what a gorgeous dog. She loves children and is my 2 year old grandson’s best friend. I cannot imagine my life before Lucy as she has brought so much love and happiness.
Thank you Kim for choosing the perfect pup for me.

Warm regards,
Holly

It’s never “just a sniff”.
It looks quick and meaningless to us. Not to them.

That moment gives them information you can’t see.
Who this dog is.
If they’ve met before.
How old they are.
What state they’re in right now.
Whether something feels a little bit “off”

Even health and hormones come into it.

Now the bit that’s missed, not every dog allows that information to be shared.

Tail position, posture, movement.
That can decide whether access is given or “denied” and only some will do this or allow it to be done.
I’m not a fan of turning a dog around to “present the rear” either. If they do it naturally, great, if they don’t, no biggie.
Some dogs just do not get their noses in that position at all.

For the ones that do?
It’s not about letting every dog sniff every dog.
But it is about understanding what’s actually happening in that moment.

And that’s a lot!

#12- use crates or expens to limit access to objects they shouldn’t chew

Crates and pens often get a bad rap, but they can be a sanity saver when raising a puppy.

It's not possible to actively watch our puppy 24/7. Puppies can get into things when we’re showering, tending to important family matters, or any other time our focus is somewhere else.

If we want to keep our prized possessions safe from being chewed or our puppies safe from ingesting something that can make them sick or cause a blockage, then we need to create a safe space our puppies enjoy with crates and pens. 🐶

It's important to NEVER use crates and pens as punishment. We want our puppies to look at their crate or pen as a puppy paradise and be able to relax. 🚫⛔

It's also crucial not to overuse these safe spaces.

Puppies need plenty of time to explore and play. Extended periods in their safe spaces can lead to boredom, frustration and a negative experience with what is supposed to be their safe space.

Crates and pens valuable when raising a puppy. Just remember to prioritize your puppy's wellbeing. 🐕
