There’s a lot of fear around back pain as we age.
And a lot of it isn’t supported by the evidence.

A 2025 research review by Carlo Ammendolia looked at common myths around back pain in older adults and found that many of the things people are told actually slow recovery.

Resting too much.
Avoiding activity.
Assuming degeneration means damage.
Believing pain is inevitable with age.

The reality is that most spines change with time, but pain is far more connected to how we move, load, and trust our bodies.

Back pain isn’t a life sentence.

Nothing personal. Just being honest.

1ļøāƒ£ Visible abs don’t equal spinal support.
Your core’s real job is to resist movement, not create it. If your trunk can’t stay stable while you lift, twist, or carry, your back ends up doing extra work it was never designed for.

2ļøāƒ£ You warm up like you’re still a teenager.
Your tissues are stiffer, recovery is slower, and your warm up needs intention. Move through full ranges of motion and engage stabilizing muscles so they are ready to support you when it matters.

3ļøāƒ£ You only stretch forward.
That usually feels best because it’s familiar. But constantly flexing a spine that’s already been flexed for hours just perpetuates the issue. Most backs need more extension, rotation, and control, not another toe touch.

Your back pain didn’t start because your back is broken.
It sticks around because how you move hasn’t changed.
