If you’ve been minimizing what you’re carrying—this is your nudge. Your story isn’t “too much,” “too late,” or “not bad enough.” It’s yours. And it matters.

Remembrance Day has always had a special place in my heart because my grandad was a veteran of WWII. The few stories he did tell made remembering all the more real and personal to those of us who had the privilege of hearing them.

As I have gotten older, it’s the stories he didn’t tell that impact me even more profoundly. He, like so many people who have experienced something unthinkable, bore the imprint on his heart, soul, and body. Most people didn’t see it, but I know it was there.

It breaks my heart to think of the weight so many vets carried, and continue to carry, in silence. I am am so thankful for the progress we have made in providing support, hope and healing to people who have suffered. We still have a long ways to go, but I believe remembering is part of what can drive us to do better!

This beautiful fall weather is a great reminder to live in the moment, count your blessings, and let go of things that are no longer serving you.

Letting go is not about pushing away or stifling your feelings, sweeping your experiences under the rug, or ignoring real risks. Letting go is about choosing not to cling tightly to things that keep us from being present in the here and now. This may include past hurts or regrets, emotions that keep you feeling stuck, toxic people or unhealthy relationships, harmful habits, unrealistic expectations of yourself or others, and more.

What could you choose to let go of to allow you to live this moment more fully?

If you need help letting go of something that is not serving you, consider talking to a counsellor. We’re here if you need us!
