Hey CCYYC community,

We’re excited to keep our new series, “Let’s Talk About…”, going! The series is all about sharing helpful information on mental health and starting more open conversations in our community. We hope you watch, comment, and share these videos to help spread awareness and support each other.

This week, we’re joined by Gemma Leonard, a registered psychologist, counsellor, and clinical lead from Kindred Connections Society. Gemma reminds us that it’s easy to get caught up in the negatives and lose perspective, even though reality is usually a lot more balanced. She encourages us to think back to times when we didn’t feel as stressed and to explore what was happening then, so we can better understand our emotions now. It might not solve everything, but it can give us a helpful and concrete step in the right direction.

This series is designed to give mental health professionals a platform to share the knowledge and insights they have gained throughout their careers with the public. The goal is to help everyone feel more informed, supported, and connected.

We at CCYYC are excited to bring you more content like this every Monday.

And as always, remember that you are not alone. Someone is here to talk whenever you are ready.
Have you used this approach in your own life? What are some other ways you manage your stress and well-being?

Once again, we have Mozanga Ekwalanga, a counsellor from Kindred, and this week she's talking about student athletes. Student athletes don't only navigate the everyday challenges of adolescence; they also take on the pressures of a highly competitive environment. When we understand that teens’ feelings can be overwhelming, we become better able to communicate with them. While adults may sometimes say, “It is just a game,” for many teens their sport is a major and meaningful part of their lives. It is important to find ways to encourage young athletes to pursue their best while also recognizing and supporting the emotions and stress that come with that commitment.

How have you supported the student athletes in your life, or what helped you when you were one?

Hey CCYYC community,

We’re excited to continue our series, “Let’s Talk About…”! This series is all about sharing helpful information on mental health and starting more open conversations in our community. We hope you watch, comment, and share these videos to help spread awareness and support each other.

This week, we have Mikelle Wile, a Social Worker from Kindred, talking about babies and mental health. Some people might think babies can’t process complex emotions, but that’s not true. Babies are able to sense and respond to the feelings of their caregivers. We know parenting is one of the most stressful jobs there is, and it’s important for parents to understand that their own mental health can directly affect the children they are caring for. When parents work towards taking care of their mental health, it can have a positive impact on their children’s mental well-being too.

This series is designed to give mental health professionals a platform to share the knowledge and insights they’ve gained throughout their careers with the public. The goal is to help everyone feel more informed, supported, and connected.

We at CCYYC can’t wait to share more content like this with you every Monday. See you then!

How do you take care of your mental health while caring for little ones?

Hey CCYYC community,

We are so excited to finally share our new series, “Let’s Talk About…”

The goal of this series is to inform the community about different mental health topics. Rather than promoting a program, this series is meant to educate and help push the mental health conversation forward. We believe that when you start talking about mental health, people are more willing to make changes in their own lives or support those around them. We also hope you comment on and share these videos to help spread awareness and keep these conversations going.

This week, we have Mozanga Ekwalanga, a counsellor from Kindred, talking about grief. Grief is something we all experience at some point in our lives, though no one’s journey is the same. The feeling of loss comes differently for everyone. While grief can be hard, it’s important to remember where those feelings come from. Talking about your feelings isn’t something to shy away from; it’s something to embrace.

This series is designed to give mental health professionals a platform to share the knowledge and insights they’ve gained throughout their careers with the public. The goal is to help everyone feel more informed, supported, and connected.

We at CCYYC are excited to bring you more content like this every Monday.

And as always, remember that you aren’t alone. Someone is here to talk whenever you’re ready.
