CUPS Calgary

CUPS Calgary Through integrated programs and services, CUPS, supports Calgarians facing poverty, adversity, and trauma to create lasting change and stability.

CUPS provides integrated support in the areas of Healthcare, Basic Needs & Housing, and Family & Child services to low-income Calgarians living with the adversity of poverty and traumatic events. While our work is rooted in the science of brain development, our passion is helping people effectively address their challenges, build stability and ultimately improve overall wellbeing.

For This Month's CUPian Spotlight, meet Emily, CUPS' Director of Fund Development!

"As CUPS’ Director of Fund Development, I have the privilege of working alongside a passionate team of leaders and fundraisers to connect Calgarians with the impact of the work we do here.

One of my main goals in this role is to ensure our community of supporters feel that their contribution to CUPS, no matter the size, truly helps to create meaningful change for Calgarians.

And I’m always excited to explore different ways to introduce CUPS to new audiences of like-minded individuals who care deeply about building a stronger, healthier community.

One of the most rewarding parts of my role is sharing client stories with our supporters. I’m always blown away by the determination and grit of both our clients and the hardworking staff who walk alongside them. Their perseverance reminds me why this work matters so much.

Outside of work, I’m a big foodie, dog mom, and chronic renovator."

Thank you Emily for all the amazing work you do!

Yesterday, three of our CUPS team members presented at the Canadian Centre on Substance Use Issues of Substance conference in Halifax, sharing a message that reflects the core of Addictions Awareness Week:

“The CUPS peer-led OAT program demonstrates that when people with lived experience lead the way, systems change for the better — recovery begins with connection, dignity, and trust. The OAT navigators break down systemic barriers and create pathways to stability, belonging, and hope. They remind us that healing is not a linear process, it’s a human one; built through empathy, persistence, and the belief that everyone deserves the chance to recover and thrive.”

This week, we honour the people, the lived experience, and the human connection that make recovery possible.

This Addictions Awareness Week, we acknowledge the complexities of addiction and the challenges faced by those who experience it.

At CUPS Calgary, we believe in meeting people where they are with compassion, understanding, and a trauma-informed approach to care.

For those experiencing addiction, navigating the journey to healing and recovery can be overwhelming and often filled with stigma, shame, and isolation.

But no one should have to face that journey alone. Recovery is possible, and support is available.

National Philanthropy Day on November 15th celebrates the generosity and impact of individuals and organizations who devote their time, talent, and resources to make the world a better place.

Let's take this day to celebrate everyone making a positive difference in our world and inspiring others to do so in their own communities.

Like our friends at Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by Altalink. We have been working with them since 2016! They raise millions of dollars every year to support children's charities across Alberta through their gift-matching program.

A huge thank you to them for their support in helping us to provide aid and services to vulnerable Calgarians.

Together we build a stronger Calgary community through compassion and purpose!

In honour of World Diabetes Day, we sat down with one of CUPS’ nurse practitioners to better understand diabetes through the lens of those navigating homelessness and poverty.

Thanks to our staff for providing a deeper look into what Diabetes is.

Today for World Kindness Day we are calling on our CUPS community to help keep vulnerable Calgarians warm this winter!

The cold is here, and we're short on winter gear! Help us keep our community safe and warm by donating the items listed, especially the ones that are our top priority.

The link to our Amazon Wishlist is here: https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/2NU8MK7A6UYVX?leftNavSection=Shopping&ref_=abls_lnv_sl&source=leftnav #

Please come by the main CUPS building anytime from 8:30am to 3pm. Ring the bell at the staff entrance on 9th Street and items can be brought to the loading dock.

Everything accepted can be gently used except for underwear and winter boots, which must be new.

Thank you for supporting our community this winter season!

This week from the 9th-15th is Nurse Practitioners week.

Here at CUPS, our Nurse Practitioners are a vital part of the health services we provide to vulnerable Calgarians.

Let’s take this week and think about ways we can recognize the Nurse Practitioners that do so much for our Calgary community.

Today, on Remembrance Day, we pause to honour the bravery, courage and sacrifice of those who served and continue to serve to protect our freedoms.

We also recognize that this day can bring up many complex emotions for veterans, their loved ones, and anyone who has experienced the impact of war or injustice.

As we remember, let’s hold space for the many experiences and emotions this day brings, and continue to strive for understanding and compassion in our communities.

Thank you, Minister Adriana LaGrange, for taking the time to meet with our team to discuss important public policy issues relevant to our work at CUPS!

The Government of Alberta is an essential partner for CUPS; the work we are doing to advance community health would not be possible without their support and funding for our service delivery model.

November 8th is Indigenous Veterans Day. Today, we honour the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people who have proudly served in the Canadian military. We acknowledge their courage and sacrifice, while also recognizing the systemic injustices and discrimination they faced before, during, and after their service.

Let us stand today in solidarity with Indigenous Veterans, recognizing their strength, courage, and sacrifice while committing ourselves to Truth, Reconciliation, and Healing.
